Weaving baskets from the newspaper. Tubing preparation

newspaper tubes
Weaving newspaper baskets requires preparation. The longest, most laborious and monotonous work in weaving from newspapers is the procurement of tubes. First, with the help of scissors, you need to cut newspaper and magazine sheets into strips about 9 centimeters wide. Then they put a spoke on the corner of the strip and begin to twist the paper at an angle of 45 degrees - this will result in a tube of optimal density for weaving. It will bend well, but at the same time keep the shape of the product.

When almost the entire newspaper strip is wound on a knitting needle, you need to drop a small amount of PVA glue on the corner and stick it to fix it. If you did everything right, you will see that the ends of the newspaper tube are different: one is wider than the other. Thanks to this, you can extend the tube by simply inserting one into the other and adding glue. When the required number of tubes is ready, they will need to be flattened, for this purpose the workpieces need to be laid out on the table and several times walk along them with a rolling pin.

Weaving baskets from newspapers. Getting down to the process

Weaving baskets from newspapers is a much more exciting and creative process than preparing tubes. First you need to determine the type of product. Traditionally, baskets are made round or square, but experienced needlewomen can also experiment by weaving baskets. From newspapers, you can create a variety of forms.

The bottom for the first products is advised not to weave, but to make from cardboard. It is necessary to cut two identical parts and stick newspaper sticks on the perimeter or circumference at one equal distance to one of them. Be sure to use an odd number of tubes. Glue the second cardboard part on top and put the load so that the bottom of the basket is properly glued. It is best to leave the blank for the night.

Now you need to take a long tube, stick it to the base, fasten with a clothespin and start weaving a basket from the newspaper. Pass the tubes alternately under and over the chopsticks, so that in one row the newspaper tube lies in front of the main stick, and in the next passes behind it. When you reach the desired height of the product, basket weaving is almost complete. The base tubes must be bent inside the product, with a hook placed under several transverse rows and cut, smeared with glue and fastened with clothespins.
