History
The history of the airport begins in 1960, when the first runway was laid. She was paved with nothing more than steel sheets. But after 4 years, the local government decided to replace the coating with asphalt. In 1966, a new strip of the island state of the Maldives was ready for operation. The airport received international status only after 15 years.

Today, 25 airlines operate scheduled or charter flights to Male Airport. The Maldives, as many know, is a welcome country for many tourists. Airplanes arrive here from 27 major cities, such as: Moscow, Berlin, London, Rome, Colombo, Amsterdam, Vienna, Delhi, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok. The largest foreign carrier to the Maldives is Sri Lanka Airlines. She makes more than 30 flights a week. Aeroflot Airlines from Sheremetyevo can deliver Russian tourists to Hulule Island. Transaero from Domodedovo and Vnukovo also offers seasonal routes.

How to get from the airport to other islands
