Maple leaves with carved edges have long become a kind of autumn symbol. A few weeks after the end of the summer, they can be seen almost everywhere: in stores, in social networks, on the pages of magazines and, of course, on the sidewalks and streets of your city.
Modern knitters, like real artists, reflect in their work the surrounding reality and their view of reality. Every day they develop a host of new schemes for creating two-dimensional copies of the most diverse gifts of nature. Maple leaves are no exception.
Knitting asymmetric motifs
There are many schemes that depict the crochet maple leaf creation algorithm. This is not surprising, because every master strives to achieve uniqueness and originality in his own way. Often the crocheted maple leaf pattern is based on a circular motif, and the carved edges are depicted as asymmetric branches. By adjusting the number of rows, the craftswoman can influence the size of the motive. A crocheted maple leaf scheme can be not only a strict instruction, but also an impetus to the development of a new design. Often the most successful are precisely those products that were created on the basis of borrowed, but modified and improved developments.
Crochet: Maple Leaf - Hot Stand
The diagram below has become quite popular over the past few years. However, despite its wide distribution, it is still considered one of the most successful.
This crocheted maple leaf pattern begins with knitting eight air loops (VP) that lock into a ring. Next, you need to perform 26 double crochet (CCH), they form the first row.
2 P: 3 VP, * 3 VP, 1 CCH *, 3 VP.
3 R: 3 VP, in each arch of the previous row you should knit a “bush” (2 SSN, 3VP, 2SSN).
In the next row, each “bush” is increased by the addition of double crochets. The number of EPs remains the same. The width of the "bushes" increase based on the desire of the craftswoman and the thickness of the yarn. In this case, the designer settled on 4 CCHs.
Here the circular rows end and partial knitting begins.
Making a carved sheet
The above crocheted maple leaf pattern perfectly illustrates the principle of formation of this asymmetric motif. After completing the five circular rows, the craftswoman should stop knitting the last two “bushes”. That is, after the seventh is ready, you need to make 3 VP, turn the fabric and knit in the opposite direction. And in the 6th and 7th rows continue to add CCH.
8-10 P: only six “bushes” are knitted.
10-14 P: work with five elements.
15-18 P: stop knitting the two extreme "bushes", increasing only three central.
19-22 P: complete the knitting of the maple leaf, performing the largest element.

Three-element maple leaf
To get a decorative motif resembling a maple leaf, you can use the following scheme.
In its center there is also a circle of SSN (rows 1 and 2), however, the carved elements are made in a completely different way. In the second row (in parallel with the implementation of the CCH), the designer proposes to knit chains of VP in three places. The third and fourth row are built on the strapping of these chains.
The relief is achieved thanks to several tricks:
- At the top of the chains, columns are added.
- Between the chains (in the hollows), the columns are reduced.
- In the process of performing the last (fourth) row, the craftswoman must knit a picot from three VPs, as well as a leaf stalk.
