A chain of picturesque mountains stretch in the western Ukraine Carpathians. The sights of these places will not leave anyone indifferent: alpine landscapes, dense forests, mineral springs and resorts ...
Ukrainian Carpathians
In ancient times, this mountain range, located in the eastern part of Central Europe, was called the Sarmatian mountains. The modern name "Carpathians", most likely, comes from the word "stone", which existed in the pre-Indo-European language. They stretched across the territory of eight states - Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia and Austria. The highest point of the Carpathian Mountains is Gerlachovsky Shtit. The mountain is located in Slovakia, in height it reaches 2655 meters.
These mountains are usually divided into Western, Southern and Eastern. The latter include the Ukrainian Carpathians. The sights of the mountains are mostly peaks. In all the Carpathians there are quite a few, only the Slovak Tatras have 25 high peaks. Within Ukraine, 10% of the Carpathian mountain system is located. The highest point is Mount Hoverla, reaching 2061 meters in height.
Ukrainian Carpathians take their origin from the Xiang River, and from there they stretch for 280 kilometers to the Suceava River. They affect four areas of the state: Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi and Transcarpathian.
Carpathians: Attractions
The flowing forms of the Carpathian mountains give the impression that these are old formations, but the Carpathians are very young and are now at the stage of active formation. 200 million years is the approximate age that the Carpathians can boast of. The sights of the mountains are picturesque ranges, rocky peaks, coniferous, plane-tree and beech forests, full of blueberries and lingonberries, water sources and waterfalls, for example, Guk Falls.
This region has valuable recreational and healing resources. In the Carpathians there are many mineral springs, near which there are various sanatoriums and recreation centers. The most famous resorts are located in Morshyn, Nadvirna, Skhidnytsia, Truskavets.
A huge number of attractions associated with water bodies. There are many lakes in the Ukrainian Carpathians. The highest mountain is located at an altitude of 1801 meters, this is Lake Brebeneskul in the Rakhiv district. In addition, the region has about 19 waterfalls. The most visited are the waterfall Guk, Whisper, Probi. The highest is Manyavsky Falls, its height is 16 meters.
Conquering the peaks
What to do in the mountains? Of course climb them! In the Carpathians, almost anyone can do this. Here there are peaks of various heights and difficulties, all the ascents to which are marked. The Marmarosh massif is interesting for its more rocky and steep peaks than in other parts of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The highest peaks belong to the Montenegro massif, among them the Goverla Mountains (2061), Brebeneskul (2032), Petros (2020), Pop Ivan (2028). Here, as in the Svidovets massif, there are many glacial lakes (Nesamovite, Verkhnyaya, Marichycheka, etc.).
In winter, walks to the peaks are not so accessible, skiing comes in their place. Novice athletes often choose Verkhovyna ski resort. It has only four small tracks.
Near the village of Polyanitsa is the resort of Bukovel. It presents 63 slopes of various difficulty levels, snowparks and even a ski school. The cable car in Bukovel, like the entire resort, works in the summer. At this time, ATV tours, rafting, wakeboarding and much more are available here.
What else can you visit?
Despite the abundance of resorts and sanatoriums, the Carpathian Mountains are places with distinctive villages and unforgettable traditions, mysterious forests, grassy meadows, and breathtaking views. In the Transcarpathian region is the reserve Beech Prales, where beech forests untouched by humans have been preserved in their original form.
Very close to the town of Khust, in the Kireshi tract, there is a valley of daffodils. You can see it in all its glory in mid-May. In the village of Bubnyshche there are Dovbush rocks, which have bizarre shapes in the form of stone idols about 80 meters high. Rocky quirks can be seen in the village of Rostock. There, in the huge rocks, many holes formed, which is why the place is now called Pierced stones. The crown of natural creativity is the arched rock of Hawkeye.
