The blindfold for eyes consists of three parts: the main, the sealant and the lining. For the main (upper) part, satin or silk is usually used. This fabric is pleasant to the touch and looks beautiful. Other synthetic and natural materials (such as linen or cotton) can also be used.
As a sealant use non-woven. It is soft and quite dense - this is what is needed for a night accessory. Thanks to this layer, a dream mask, made by yourself, will not put pressure on your eyes and at the same time will keep its shape, and even light does not pass through it.
The lining is the part that is applied to the face. That is why for its creation they use the most pleasant material for the body - flannel or fleece. Such tissue does not cause irritation.
The basics of sewing a night bandage
Before embarking on any sewing, it is necessary to make a pattern. Our case is no exception. The main task of the night accessory is to make our stay comfortable. Therefore, the pattern of the mask for sleep should correspond to the anatomical features of the face.
The standard size of the mask is 190 x 95 mm. It has an oval shape with a recess for the nose. This is the most common type of mask. There are also those that consist, for example, of two triangles.
You can print or draw an example of a pattern yourself using the photo above. It is better to make it immediately on thick paper, so that it is more convenient to work with it.
Start sewing
The master class (how to make a mask for sleeping) consists of the following actions:
- Prepare a paper pattern, tools and the necessary material (for example, silk, non-woven and flannel).
- Attach the pattern to the flannel, pin it with pin needles and circle it along the contour. Cut one piece.
- Make two more of the same details from silk and non-woven.
- Now fold the mask: the flannel is placed face down, non-woven, silk - face up. Connect the layers with pins.
- Cut a piece of gum. It should not be too long so that the blindfold on the eyes does not fall off, and not short so that nothing presses.
- Cut a rectangle from the same material as the top of the mask. In length, it should be equal to the size of the gum, and in width should be two to three times more.
- Sew the rectangle in length, leaving the edges unfurled.
- Then make two parallel lines in the middle so that the strip is divided into three parts in length. Moreover, the gum should get into the middle.
- Insert the elastic into the prepared part and fasten its ends with pins.
- Attach the gum around the edges to the mask. You need to insert between the upper and middle layers.
- Stitch together all the details, leaving a small hole through which you can unscrew the mask.
- Notch along the stitched edges. To do this, use scissors to make frequent small cuts. This is necessary so that the fabric is evenly distributed, and not gathered in an accordion.
- Turn out a product.
How to decorate a sleep dressing?
A handmade mask for dreams is an accessory that can also be beautifully decorated:
- make an application of fleece (it can be the eyes, the muzzle of the animal, glasses, and so on);
- decorate the edge with lace;
- stick sequins or rhinestones;
- make embroidery and much more.
Fancy sleeping mask
A handmade mask for dreams will turn out to be quite unusual if you give it an interesting shape. For example, a bandage in the form of a cat's face will look simple and original.
To do this, draw the ears of a triangular shape to the usual pattern. Then cut out all three parts and sew the mask as described above. You can decorate it with antennae, eyes and a fleece nose.
Similarly, you can make a mask in the form of a muzzle of a panda or another animal. For greater realism, choose a material that matches the color, and do not forget about the features. For example, the panda has black circles around the eyes, so you also need to recreate them on the mask.
