Car manometers: purpose, types, description

Automobile pressure gauges are devices designed to measure tire pressure in a car. Almost every avid motorist has these devices. In modern “premium” class cars, automobile pressure gauges (sensors for monitoring pressure) are included as standard.

It is recommended to regularly measure tire pressure, as different pressures affect the directional stability of the vehicle. In this case, when braking, the car leads away. Low tire pressure leads to severe wear of rubber, which increases the braking distance and fuel consumption of the car, the speed picks up more slowly.

There are two types of automobile pressure gauges: analog and digital

Analog devices are devices that have a dial with an arrow indicating the level of pressure in the car’s tire. Analog gauges are considered more reliable. If you use such devices carefully and competently, they will provide fairly accurate readings. Nevertheless, it should be noted that mechanical pressure gauges have the following feature: when the pressure level approaches the upper boundary of the measured range of the device, its error significantly increases. Despite this drawback, analog gauges are quite popular with motorists - they are in high demand. These devices have a relatively low cost.

digital car pressure gauge

The digital automobile pressure gauge displays the measurement result on the liquid crystal display. The popularity of such devices lies in the convenience of displaying measured values in user-defined units. It is believed that a digital instrument gives more accurate readings than an analog pressure gauge. An electronic automotive pressure meter can be one of three accuracy classes for the readings. The first class of digital pressure gauges has a measurement accuracy from 1 to 0.5, the second from 0.5 to 0.1, and the third class up to 0.05. Therefore, before buying an electronic tire pressure measuring device, you need to decide for yourself what accuracy of readings you need to get. The price of a digital pressure gauge ranges from one and a half thousand to tens of thousands of rubles. The cost of pressure sensors depends on the accuracy of the device measurements, functionality, overall dimensions, as well as on the characteristics of the product body (strength, ergonomics). The disadvantage of automotive electronic pressure gauges is the batteries for starting. You always have to have spare batteries, which can cause significant inconvenience to the motorist.

In conclusion, we list a few recommendations for measuring the pressure in the tires of your car:

  • inspection should be done at least two to three times a week;
  • determine tire pressure only in cold wheels;
  • to obtain accurate data, it is recommended to carry out the procedure several times;
  • it is forbidden to wipe the gauges with a damp cloth - this leads to damage to the device and its readings become inaccurate.
