There are many interesting places on our planet. Many of them attract with their beauty, unusualness or grandeur. They become a national treasure, and it is here that there is no shortage of tourists who want to stare, take pictures and remember everything they see. You can give a huge number of examples: the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Statue of Liberty in New York, Red Square in Moscow and many others.
But there are also such objects that simply amaze with mystery and mystery. Moreover, they, frankly, are able to inspire frank horror in the hearts of all visitors without exception. Section 1. Tower of the Lunatics (Vienna). General description of the object
Agree, this place has a rather unusual name. But it was not chosen by chance. The fact is that initially the building of this museum belonged to a psychiatric clinic. Inside the five-story building, which includes 139 rooms, patients were kept. By its nature, the Tower of Lunatics (Vienna, Austria) was considered a prison to a greater extent than a hospital designed to treat mentally ill people. The rooms looked more like confinement chambers than hospital wards: reinforced windows, massive doors, furniture nailed to the floor. In inhuman, by today's standards, conditions, violent patients were kept.
Today, the world famous pathological museum is located here. Probably, many have not even heard of such an institution, but nevertheless, it turns out, it exists.
The decision to establish it was first made before the Second World War. A museum called the Tower of the Crazies (Vienna) has formed its collection, of course, not on the same day. Over the course of several decades, human organs, limbs, and embryos, plentifully coming from Vienna morgues, became exhibits. All of them had one common feature - congenital or acquired pathologies.
Section 2. Tower of the Lunatics (Vienna). Our days
Unfortunately, not all objects were saved. And although this museum, unlike many others, was not plundered during the war, most of its first especially unique exhibits were nevertheless destroyed. In particular, during the bombing of the city, a sculptural exposition called “Laocoon with Sons” perished, which was once made from both human and animal bones.
Today the museum has a lot of exhibits. Often visited are rooms showing pathologies related to the field of gynecology and various sexually transmitted diseases. Here you can see the human genitals, as well as all those mutations that can occur for a number of reasons.
