What is a Lemarshan box? The idea of creating such an object was put forward by Philip Lemarshan, the hero of the book by Clive Barker. He created a special opening cube as an interesting puzzle. Therefore, the toy began to be called the Lemarshan's box. Although another hero of the book practiced black magic and used the cube as a portal to the demons of the lower world, the people of our world make crafts as decorations for the home because of its unusual and mysterious nature.
How to make a Lemarshan box with your own hands?
A homemade box in appearance is no worse than the original. Moreover, the characters can be glued to the same ones that are inscribed on a real movie craft. Such a toy will become an interesting and unexpected gift to a friend or acquaintance. The box can be made open so that you can store small things in it, for example watches. Or you can simply build such a cube with glued symbols of hell for decoration.
So, how is Lemarshan's box made with his own hands? For a regular box that will not open, either wood or textolite is suitable as a base. The latter will be more convenient for processing at home, so it is better to look for this material for crafts. From the PCB, cut 6 sides with grooves that should fit tightly together. A scan is printed on the laser printer, cut out. All parts are then glued to 6 sides of the cube. This is the easiest option. The cube is folded, like the Lego constructor, and Lemarshan's casket is assembled.

Another option for such a cube is a craft made of wood with retractable sides. Using a jigsaw, you need to process the inner and outer surfaces of the sides of the cube very carefully. On 4 sides inside, pull-out joints need to be cut. Grooves for them should be provided from two other parties.
The cube itself is folded together using these pull-out elements. Such a box opens by simultaneously moving sideways of all 4 moving blocks. The upper and lower sides remain motionless. If a person likes to cut wood, and there is a set for sawing with a jigsaw, then all the drawings can be done independently, then processed and varnished on wood.

Also, a simpler craft is made from wood, which does not imply special knowledge and carving skills. Any pieces of wood available at hand are suitable for the job. Still need glue and a little enthusiasm. Why is the casket of Lemarshan so mysterious? Every schoolboy studying geometry knows the cube drawing. But the secret lies in the unusual drawings. It is enough to glue with a PVA or "Titan" a cube of small wooden blocks. If you make a large cube with thick walls, then you can use cloves. Then, in the order shown, stick the characters on each side.
What takes the most time is a scan with many small elements that need to be cut very carefully with a stationery knife. It is best to print a few blanks in case you cannot cut thinly the first time. So you can quickly, within 2-3 days to make several of these cubes. Of course, it is also better to open them with varnish so that the drawings are preserved longer.

Lemarshan's caskets, known as the Lament configuration, are an even more interesting craft. But it is made very difficult. Such a toy will take a lot of time. You must first make a layout, and then take up work on the original. This craft consists of two halves, each of which is done according to a special principle.
There are various combinations of Lemarshan's casket, but usually the layout is made of hard cardboard. A scan printed on paper is glued to cardboard. This layout is assembled into a cube and cut into pieces so that the cube can assemble again. We see the assembly principle in the figure above. After that, on the basis of the cardboard parts, wooden elements are already cut out and glued together in the same order in which the cardboard cube was disassembled. Therefore, it is better to make 2 layouts at once, so that there is an example of assembly. Sometimes they choose plywood for a cube instead of a tree. In the same way, the layout is prepared, and the cube is assembled. Then the cardboard parts are fastened with tape to the base, and Lemarshan's casket is immediately cut out by marking with a jigsaw.
How to transfer a drawing to a finished cube?
In order to display the elements of hell on a tree or plywood, you will need to do a subtle job. All details should be cut out of paper and put them on the buttons. You can use sticky paper for this, which can then be removed.
You have to buy a spray can with black paint and walk over the entire area of the cube several times and paint. When the paint dries, the stickers are removed.
