Ribbon embroidery is a fascinating type of needlework that does not require special skills and sophisticated devices. Its peculiarity is that it is possible to give volumetric drawing to the canvas without using a multitude of threads for the image of partial shade and color transitions. The technique uses simple embroidery techniques, and it takes much less time to create a masterpiece than when working with floss or beads.
Exquisite embroidery with silk ribbons is used to decorate clothes, accessories and turns an ordinary thing into an exclusive wardrobe item. Satin-made floral paintings from the atlas in beauty sometimes surpass real bouquets. Peony is one of the popular plots for embroidery among unmarried young ladies, as there is a sign of an imminent meeting with the narrowed one after finishing work with this plant.
How to embroider ribbons
The embroidery of peonies with ribbons, the master class of which we offer in our article, begins with the preparation of the necessary tools for the work. Not all of these items may be needed, but it is advisable to stock up on them. So, we will conduct a master class on embroidering peonies with ribbons. You will need the following materials:
- Fabric or canvas. It can be plain or with a textured pattern. The main parameter when choosing a material is density. It is important that the stitches do not shine through.
- Tapes of different sizes and shades. For one peony flower, you will need 2 m of tape 5 mm wide, 1 m 40 cm of tape 1 cm wide, 1 m 40 cm of tape 2.5 cm wide, 70 cm of tape 4 cm wide.
- Needles of different sizes for different widths of ribbons. A feature of such needles is blunt tips.
- Set of hoops of different diameters.
- Lighter or candle made of high-quality wax, for processing the edges of the tape.
- Several scissors, awl and pliers.
- Ballpoint pen or felt-tip pen.
In some ribbon embroidery techniques, peonies are made separately and then simply sewn onto the canvas.
The execution of the middle of the flower
The base fabric is hooped. On the canvas, we mark the middle of the flower by drawing in a chosen place two concentric circles of 2 and 3 cm in diameter. You can do this with a pen, there will be no trace in the end.
We start embroidering with peonies ribbons from a ribbon 5 mm wide:
- We measure 2 meters, put it in a needle, and gently burn the tip with a candle to make a petal.
- We start embroidering peonies with satin ribbons from the front: we introduce the needle into the center of the inner circle, leave a small βtailβ 2 cm long and bend it to the side. This will be the first petal.
- We begin to form the middle of the flower, making loops and filling them with the inner circle drawn on the fabric. To do this, take a pen, wrap it with tape and insert the needle into a smaller circle. It is advisable to make loops of the same height. For the center we use all 2 meters of tape.
Shortly before the end of the process, the handle is removed, and the loops are positioned arbitrarily, without going beyond the inner circle, so that the middle of the flower looks natural.
1 cm ribbon petals
We continue embroidering peony with ribbons 1 cm wide:
- Cut 1 m 40 cm and process the edge with a candle, creating a petal. To do this, bring the ribbon sideways to the middle of the flame to avoid blackness, and burn on the sides and front. The corners will be bent, and the leaf will look like a real one.
- We introduce the tape near the center so that the petal at the end is directed to the center of the flower.
- Then there may be two options: cut off the tape, securing it to the inside with a lighter, and start all over again or insert the needle nearby, leading to the front side and beating above the candle.
The tape must be displayed inside out in the middle. The height of the wide leaflets is chosen arbitrarily, it should be slightly larger than the central ones. We work in a circle, moving along the edge of the middle of the flower. To give pion splendor, embroidery with petal ribbons is preferably done in two circles.
2.5 cm ribbon petals
- Now we take a tape 2.5 cm wide, measure out 70 cm.
- We make the petal with scissors, cutting off the corners and scorching the edge with the sides above the candle. Do the height more than on the previous circle.
- We retreat from small petals about 3-4 mm. All other actions are repeated, as in the work with a 1 cm tape.
Peony ribbon embroidery craftsmen recommend cutting off the ribbon with a margin to form the edges.
Petals on the outer edge
For the widest petals we use a tape 4 cm wide:
- We determine how much it will be needed per petal, adding up the height of the petal and the necessary length for the output to the wrong side - it will turn out about 7-8 cm.
- We cut the tape into 8 equal parts.
- The resulting leaves are cut off on one side by an angle, and on the other by a semicircle.
- We scorch the edges, trying to make them uneven, like real peonies, and the sides to bend the petals.
- We insert a sharp corner into the needle, insert the needle from the front into a wide circle, and tighten the tape.
- Now you need to pull the bottom of the petal to the sides and tighten it again to make it look like a real one.
- The next section of tape is introduced opposite.
Repeat the process until the leaves are over.
Now you can remove the work from the hoop, cut off the excess on the inside and stick the edges of all the petals to the center with a lighter. Embroidery ribbons peony completed. If you repeat this process several times, complementing the plot with leaves, you get a magnificent bouquet of spring flowers.
