In the north of the "blazing" mainland - South America, washed by the waters of the Atlantic, there is a small state of Suriname. A country where barren sands and dry savannahs are adjacent to equatorial rainforests.
The indigenous tribes of these lands were the Caribbean and Arawak. From the seventeenth century, sugar cane and coffee plantations began to be planted here, on which the then enslavers, the Dutch, used the labor of African slaves. In the sixties of the nineteenth century, slavery was abolished, and immigrants from Indonesia and India began to arrive in the colony. And in 1975, the country became independent.
The main city and the largest port of the state is the capital of Paramaribo, built on the Suriname River of the same name, with a population of more than 200 thousand people.
It was founded by French colonists in the middle of the seventeenth century on the site of a small Indian village, making it the capital of the colony. However, a dozen years later, the capital of Suriname was captured by the Dutch. In general, a lot of things in Paramaribo are connected with the influence of the Dutch culture - houses, architectural structures, canals.

The historical center of Paramaribo combines the traditions of many cultures, which is why mosques, a Roman Catholic temple and synagogues peacefully coexist here.
Since the capital of Suriname is not very rich in historical attractions, tourists are attracted by various extreme attractions and various water sports, for which there are great opportunities for practicing. For example, the route organized from Paramaribo up the Suriname river flow to the city of Mullobi and the reservoir, in the vicinity of which there is a beautiful Brownsberg National Park, with Leo and Irene waterfalls, is very popular.
