A significant event took place in the cultural and social life of the capital of the Ural region in May 2006. A unique Museum of military equipment in Verkhnyaya Pyshma opened here (this is a small town near Yekaterinburg). This story originates in 2005, when the first exhibition of military vehicles was created in an open area located near the central entrance of the metallurgical plant. The idea to perpetuate the military and labor exploits of the inhabitants of the Urals, whose contribution to the overall victory over the enemy in the battles of the Great Patriotic War, cannot be overestimated, arose precisely then. But its implementation required significant material costs. Of course, money was found for this noble cause. The Museum of Military Equipment in Verkhnyaya Pyshma exists thanks to financial support from the large Ural business, the city administration and the command of the military district. And the funds needed to create the museum were quite significant.

The basis of the museum’s exposition is heavy military equipment, which has been produced by the enterprises of the Ural region for many decades. This exposition is located in the open air, it is unique in the volume and quality of the exhibits. All cars are carefully restored and are in excellent technical condition. In addition to the legendary vehicles that took a direct part in the hostilities on various fronts of the past war, heavy armored vehicles manufactured at the factories of the Urals in the post-war decades are presented in an open area. Also, the exposition is widely represented artillery of all types, calibers and targets, anti-aircraft missile technology and modern combat aircraft.
Since the spring of 2013, the Museum of Military Equipment in Verkhnyaya Pyshma also has a closed three-story pavilion. It is built in the architectural style of the so-called
Stalinist empire, which emphasizes the character of a bygone historical era. It contains exhibits from the category of small arms. And in the upper part of the atrium of the building are the most famous
combat aircraft that defended the sky of the Motherland and smashed the enemy from the air. In the closed pavilion, civilian equipment related to the historical era is also widely represented. Here is the largest collection of various retro cars in the entire Urals. The naval forces are represented on an open site by a combat torpedo boat with ammunition and an upper deck superstructure of a submarine.

The concept on which the Museum of Military Equipment in Verkhnyaya Pyshma is based is based on a number of fundamental points. The main one is the non-profit nature of the museum. Its exposition is free and available to all visitors. Also, the technique of Hitlerite Germany and the countries that fought on its side is fundamentally not allowed into the museum’s exposition, no matter how technically interesting these machines were. The military museum in Verkhnyaya Pyshma stands primarily on patriotic positions.
