From ancient times, people used all kinds of improvised materials to create unique products. So, when it was necessary to entertain a bored child with something new, mothers and grandmothers easily made simple, but surprisingly cute toys from socks. The monkey, in particular, has become a kind of symbol of this unusual kind of needlework. Anyone can make such a cute little animal.
Features
A monkey made of socks, made with your own hands from publicly available materials, will be a good gift for a child for any minor holiday. In addition, the merry monkey is one of the twelve symbols of the year according to the eastern horoscope. If you want to give the toy a truly original look, first take two socks with heels and toes that differ in color from the main shade of the products. From a whole pair you can make all the necessary details of the future figure: body, legs, head, arms, tail, muzzle and ears. A bright striped pair is good for needlework.
So, your goal is a sock monkey. The master class presented below will help to create a unique soft toy.
Beginning of work

- Turn both socks inside out.
- Put one toe on the table with the heel down. You may need to fold the product in an unnatural way for this. If the fabric puffs and does not want to lie flat, walk along it with an iron.
- Draw a line in the center along the toe, starting from the cape and ending at a distance of 2-3 cm from the colored heel. Thus, the legs of the monkey are divided. Remember that the heel should still lie on the surface of the table, so if necessary, turn the toe up and specify the desired distance. It is best to use special washable fabric markers. Make sure that the two longitudinal halves are really the same, otherwise your monkey made of socks, made by yourself according to this instruction, will end up with a light marriage: one leg comes out thick and the other comes out thin.
- Keeping the sock in a flattened position, sew manually or using a sewing machine two parallel lines on either side of the center you marked. The distance between the center line and each of the seams should be approximately 6 mm.
- Scissor an incision in the center line between the two seams. These are legs shod in variegated shoes.
Body and head

- Gradually you get a sock monkey. With your own hands, you can already fill the first toe of the pair with a suitable filler. For this purpose, a holofiber is usually acquired, but it is not forbidden to use an ordinary synthetic winterizer or synthetic winterizer. The upper part of the sock, cut below, will turn into a chest and a head. If you are not sure how much filler can safely be put into a toy, evaluate the quality of the sock. An overly thin product will not stand tight packing and will stretch, eventually spoiling the appearance of the souvenir.
- Use a thread and a needle to make a head. To do this, sew the proposed neck line with 5 mm stitches. Use a sufficiently strong thread, since you will need to pull at its ends and narrow the neck of the figure. Tie the ends of the thread in a knot. Fill your head with synthetic filler and sew a lumen in the material. As you can see, even a novice master will be able to do a simple monkey from a sock; even a smart child can complete a sewing master class . At the same stage, you can make the monkey a fashionable hat. If the upper gum color matches the entire product, it is easier to make only a round head, forming it with your fingers and suturing along the neckline. If the gum contrasts in color with the basic shade of the pair, you can simply cut it off with scissors (note: the final toy will become smaller in size) or turn the gum into an original hat for the animal. To do this, pinch the edge and leave the gum empty, without filler. At the top of the figure should be an empty cone of fabric. Such an original monkey from socks with his own hands will certainly please the child.
Pens, ears and tail
- Draw on the second toe the small details of the figure: tail, two ears, two arms and a nose. In this case, the nose pattern should be located on the heel, and the tail should slightly capture the area of โโthe contrasting cape. Cut parts from both layers of the sock at the same time.
- Fold the handles in length and sew, without covering the part that will combine them with the body. Repeat with the tail.
- Fold each ear in half and cut along the fold line, then sew a semicircle. You will have free the part through which you will fill the parts for their further connection with the body of the figure.
- Fill the resulting parts (except the nose) with holofiber or sintepon and sew them to the appropriate areas on the monkeyโs trunk.
Finishing touches
- Sew the nose onto the โfaceโ only partially, then fill it with filler. The muzzle of the monkey should protrude forward - ideally at a right angle.
- Embroider your mouth. If desired, embroidered nostrils can be added to the face.
- To make eyes, glue or sew two buttons on pieces of white felt of the same size. Then, in any convenient way, attach the felt to the face. If you prefer realistic toys, take the black buttons.
Now you know everything about how to make a monkey from a sock.
