A young city with a very rich history
In the 30s of the last century, on the territory of the Republic of Dagestan, geological expeditions searched for the places most suitable for industrial oil production. In 1936, a tent camp was set up on the site of the modern city of Izberbash. It was here that the legendary oil well No. 8 was drilled, with which the history of the production of liquid "gold" in Dagestan begins. The city of Izberbash itself appeared on maps only in 1950, as a large industrial center. Where did such an unusual name of the settlement come from? According to one of the popular versions, the whole point is that once the local railway was built by the Germans and they designated their location in their native language as das ist Berg (“this is a mountain” - a literal translation). It is believed that it was for this reason that the local mountain was named Izberg-Tau, and the city that grew in the immediate vicinity was Izberbash.

The times when Izberbash (Dagestan) was famous as a major center of the oil industry are a thing of the past. Today, the largest and most significant enterprises in the region are considered to be: a wine and brandy factory, a confectionery factory and a factory that produces drinking drinks.
