The etymology of Lake Meshchersky originates in the XVIII century. The name of this reservoir is directly related to the name of the village in which it is located. Both the lake and the Meshchersky village in the times before the revolution belonged to the princely family of the Meshchersky. Thus, they inherited their interesting name from the merchants at their disposal.
