Mogilev-Podolsky is one of the most beautiful cities not only in the Vinnitsa region where it is located, but also throughout Ukraine. Until 1923, it bore such a simple name as Mogilev, and in common people it was called Mogilev on the Dnieper or the Dnieper Mogilev, in the XVIII-XIX centuries it was known as Mogilev district. It borders with Moldova from the west. The total territory of the city is almost 2200 hectares, and the height above sea level is about 80 meters.

First population

The first residents of the city of Mogilev-Podolsky (the map perfectly shows its location) settled on its territory in 1450. The city itself was erected only in 1595, the first building was the castle of Jeremiah of the Grave, in whose honor it is named. This was followed by the arrangement and ennobling of the surroundings, after which they passed into the possession of the son-in-law of the founder Stefan Pototsky. In the period from 1654 to 1667, a war broke out between the Poles and the Russians, but the Cossack-Russian troops, united with the Tatars, managed to repel the enemy attack by the Pole. The inhabitants of Mogilev on the Dniester were not spared by the uprising against the feudal lords, which took place in 1768, the organizers of which were Maxim Zheleznyak and Ivan Gont.

History of the city

During the tsarist rule of the Russian Empire, Mogilev-Podolsky (Ukraine) was sold to Russia by Poland (1795), after which it became part of the great Empire. And a year later he was assigned the status of the county of Podolsk province. Thanks to developed agriculture and extensive wheat fields , in the middle of the XIX century Mogilev became the largest city in the production of bread. In 1881, the construction of railways began here, shipping routes appeared. This contributed to the rapid development of the industry of the county town, various enterprises began to be built, such as a cast iron foundry , sugar production and others. In 1922, Mogilev became part of the Ukrainian SSR and a year later it acquired its new name, still used today - Mogilev-Podolsky. The city became part of the Vinnytsia region only in 1932. And already by 1940 its industry had grown tenfold.

During WWII

During the Second World War, this city was first brutally fired upon by the enemy, and then occupied by German troops, as well as Romania, after which it was assigned to the territory of this state, and the entire population was constantly humiliated and ill-treated by the invaders who entered the city. In March 1944, Mogilev-Podolsky was returned to the USSR as soldiers of the Second Ukrainian Front.

Industry after the war

After the war ended, the industry of Mogilev-Podolsky began to develop with renewed vigor; new factories were built for machine building, instrument making, for the production of sunflower oil and canned food, wine and others. Factories for the manufacture of furniture, fabrics and non-woven materials, household supplies and chemicals began to open. Culture and education also did not stand still, in the city was opened an assembly college, a Soviet trade school, as well as a school for the training of medical personnel. All these factories are still a pillar in the urban economy, but new enterprises of food and light industry, a factory for the manufacture of confectionery products have also been added to them.

Transport

The city of Mogilev-Podolsky has a well-functioning public transport, presented in the form of several route lines. The railway system is well developed here, which maintains communication with Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Chisinau. Freight and passenger transportation to other cities and towns of the suburbs are carried out along the railway lines. Bus communication is carried out along two routes, one of which leads to Vinnitsa, and the other to Moldova.
