Texas is surrounded by Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico and Louisiana. The Rio Grande River - one of the main attractions of Texas, shares it with Mexico. In size Texas surpasses only Alaska. And by the number of inhabitants, the state is second after California.
It is one of the most important US centers. It develops agriculture, industry, education and the financial sector. The state’s border position played into his hands, combining American and Spanish cultural traditions. This is best seen in San Antonio and El Paso.
The nature of the state is represented by hot, arid deserts on the one hand, as well as prairies and dense forests on the other. There is definitely something to see here. Lyndon Johnson Space Center
The city in which the most interesting and exciting landmark of Texas is located is Houston. In its vicinity there is a space center where NASA headquarters is located, space technology is being developed and astronauts are trained for flights.
Of the 6 thousand hectares of the territory, only a part is open to tourists. You can move around in the center in a small train. Here is a museum with models of ships of real sizes, simulators and thematic attractions. The pride of the museum is the Apollo ship, built for the next flight to the moon, but never made its journey.
San Antonio Historical Park
San Antonio is a piece of Europe in America. The first Europeans to come here were the Spaniards, as there are quite a few reminders in the city. The historical park is one of them.
The park occupies 334 hectares. On its territory there are five Spanish Baroque churches built in the late XVII - early XVIII centuries. They were built by the colonialists in order to spread the Spanish culture and Christianity on the continent, which they still do.
In addition to the historical park, in San Antonio there are no less interesting sights of Texas, for example, a cozy pedestrian promenade, the Alamo memorial center or the Tower of the Americas 190 meters long.
6th Floor Museum in Dallas
By name, not everyone becomes clear what this museum is like. It is dedicated to the 35th US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, or rather his death. The murder of the American leader still leaves many questions and is the subject of many-sided debate. It was committed on the main street of Dallas in 1963, right from the window of the sixth floor of the building, which has now become a museum.
The museum itself is located a floor above. In it you can familiarize yourself not only with the famous sad events, but also find out details about the life of the entire Kennedy family. Inside are many photographs, the same rifle and even the wax figure of Harvey Lee Oswald, the officially recognized killer. Here you can watch short documentaries about the President of the United States, and from the window you can see the cross painted with paint - the place where the Kennedy car was driving at the time of the tragedy.
Hamilton Pool
Man has nothing to do with creating this Texas landmark. Once there was a cave in place of the reservoir, completely hidden from human eyes. Groundwater gradually washed away its limestone walls, and at one point its dome simply collapsed. Thus an incredibly beautiful natural lake Hamilton was formed with clear water of a green hue.
The surviving part of the dome of the cave formed a grotto, in which part of the lake hides. From above, trickles of water flow down into it, forming a thin wall of a waterfall 15 meters high. Hamilton is located forty kilometers from the state capital - Austin. It is impossible to get to the lake by car, it will have to be left a half kilometer further, since the territory is protected.
Big Bend National Park
Another natural attraction in Texas is the Big Bend National Park. It is adjacent to the Mexican border. The border river Rio Grande forms small canyons and green oases. The rest of the park is mostly deserted.
Within the Big Bend stretches a long ridge Chisos. Mount Emory is its highest point, which stretches 2,385 meters in height. Part of the park is represented by the Chihuahua desert. Its climate is not as severe as in most deserts, and flowers bloom from March to April.
The main vegetation in the park: cacti, yuccas, agaves and bunch grasses. Lizards, snakes and vultures live in the desert, but deer, bears, mountain lions and more than 400 species of birds are found in mountainous places.
