Not so long ago, a combined device appeared on the car gadget market: a navigator with a recorder. Such a symbiosis has both positive and negative sides.
Advantages of navigators with integrated recorders
The positive points include the gain in money. It amounts to approximately 50 dollars. That is, you will pay for the purchase of two devices more than for a combined navigator with a registrar. The second gain in saving space on the windshield: two devices occupy a larger space and significantly limit visibility.
A car recorder with a navigator also wins in power. There is usually one cigarette lighter in the car. But, as a rule, both GPS and the recorder are powered by a cigarette lighter, which becomes a problem with both devices. This problem
you can decide to periodically turn them on and off (which not everyone likes), or you can buy a cigarette lighter double, which is also not very convenient.
Negative points
The most significant negative point that the navigator-recorder has is the lesser functionality of the DVR. For example, in the models presented to date, the possibility of night shooting or recording sound is very rare. That is, you will not be able to record a conversation with a representative of road services, and even at night you will find yourself without insurance.
Leaves much to be desired and the viewing angle of the camera recorder. It is 75 degrees, which is not always enough (usually it is at least 120 degrees on mono-instruments). With this device you will record what is happening in front of the machine, and you will not see the curb and what is on the right and left. The good news is that in this gadget the navigator with the registrar can work simultaneously without restrictions.
There are some difficulties with the placement of the combined device. The navigator should be located in direct line of sight so that it can be easily reached. The DVR is usually located in the upper part of the windshield, and the guideline is the best view of the road. How to have a hybrid device? How is the navigator? But then what will the camcorder that is installed in the panel record? One has to look for a compromise solution - to install the device so that it can be reached if necessary, but also to provide a sufficient viewing angle of the road.
A controversial decision, but it certainly has a right to exist. In addition, technologists are developing rapidly, and the hour is not far off when someone comes up with a brilliant idea that will solve most problems.
What to look for when choosing
When choosing a navigator with a recorder, pay attention to the screen resolution (the higher it is, the sharper the picture), the format in which the video is recorded (today it can be not only VGA, but also HD - an improved picture quality, which guarantees the opportunity to examine all the details recorded). Consider the processor clock speed: it must be high enough to cope with the simultaneous processing of the video stream and the operation of the navigation system. Processors with a frequency of 500 MHz cope well with this task. If this parameter is lower, then most likely the picture will “float”, which reduces all the advantages of this device to almost zero.
