Legendary Fishing Stone

Stone-Fisherman is not a gem at all, as you might think, because this is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear this name for the first time. Moreover, this is not a stone at all, and it has a very distant relation to stones as such. This name is an echo of the old fishing legend, which few people now remember.

What is a Stone Fisherman?

Everything is much simpler. Kamen-Rybolov is a rather populous village in the Primorsky Territory, located on the banks of the picturesque Lake Khanka. The village is located near the border with China, therefore, among its population there are many immigrants from a neighboring country.

Kamen-Rybolov is the largest and most populated village in the vast Russian Federation. According to the 2010 census, its population was more than 10,000 people. A unique ecosystem is preserved here, which is facilitated by the absence of any industrial enterprises in the village itself and nearby.

The ecological situation of the region stably remains one of the best in Russia, and, perhaps, it is not a coincidence that the Far Eastern Research Institute, dealing with plant protection, is located here.

Village history

The settlement was founded back in 1865, when a large group of Cossacks moved here from the western regions, who were looking for new fishing grounds in these deaf and impassable places.

The first inhabitants of the village who founded the Kamen-Rybolov, Primorsky Krai perceived as a quiet, secluded corner, where the traditions of past years and the patriarchal way of life were preserved. And their life was just as calm and carefree: the Cossacks were engaged in fishing in the waters of Lake Khanka, hunting in the dense forests surrounding the village, and selling furs to nearby China.

The shocks and worries of the outside world were bypassed. So, for its inhabitants, the events of the February and October Revolutions that followed after this fratricidal Civil War, and the change in the political system remained virtually invisible. Everything changed only in 1936, when the 47th Fighter Aviation Regiment was formed in the village of Kamen-Rybolov, one of the first to engage in battle with the Japanese army on Lake Hassan in 1938.

Village today

Today it is a real nature reserve Stone-Fisherman. Photos of its surroundings give a clear idea of this. It has become a real Mecca for tourists from neighboring China and the western regions of Russia.

They are attracted primarily by the unfading virgin nature of these places, the stunning landscapes of Lake Khanka, the shy beauty of the Kommisarovka River and protected areas with unique plants and animals of the Far Eastern District.

Now the tourist infrastructure is rapidly developing here, recreation centers are opening, attracting visitors with comfortable rooms, sightseeing programs and any available entertainment. Thanks to this, after 150 years of existence, the Stone Fisherman has finally become a part of this world, and not a deaf, unknown village, lost among impenetrable forests.
