Lions, seals and ... cockroaches
Korkeasaari Zoo is one of the largest and most popular zoos not only in Finland, but also in the world. It is located on the island of the same name and occupies as many as 22 hectares. The main feature of Korkeasaari is that animals live here in very spacious enclosures, in almost natural conditions.
By the way, here you can see about 2000 species of animals from around the world. Helsinki Zoo is a unique collection of flora and fauna of almost all climatic zones of the Earth: from the Arctic to tropical latitudes. The whole territory is divided into thematic zones.
Big cats are considered special pride of Korkeasaari: leopards, European wild cats, Pallas, tigers, lions and snow leopard - the main symbol of the zoo. True, in the daytime it is not always possible to examine them well, because after lunch they prefer to sleep. In areas of Africa and Amazonia you can admire the bright plumage of birds, somersaults of monkeys, look at snakes and even tropical cockroaches.
Korkeasaari Zoo in Helsinki is not only a haven for heat-loving animals. The inhabitants of the colder climate live here: bears, seals and many ungulates. By the way, a rock of 20 meters height was artificially constructed for mountain goats , which they climb with pleasure in a matter of minutes.
Throughout the territory, wide walking paths for visitors meander. There are also observation towers, we advise you to climb at least one of them and look at every corner of the zoo.
In order to have a good meal after a walk, the Helsinki Zoo offers to visit a cozy cafe with the original name βPukkiβ, which means βgoatβ in Russian. After a tasty lunch in this place, the word βgoatβ is unlikely to be associated with anything bad. Korkeasaari works all year round, depending on the season, only the hours for visiting can change.
