The pearl of the Scandinavian peninsula is a true treasury that preserves architectural and cultural monuments. A bit of history
In the X century, courageous Vikings founded a small settlement, which eventually turns into a developing settlement. Archaeologists have discovered glass pearls dated to the 7th century, as well as the ruins of ancient buildings. And in the heart of the city they found a pagan burial, which was hidden under the church building.
In the Middle Ages, a terrible disaster came to the village, then called Aros: the epidemic of the bubonic plague that was raging in Europe, kills the lives of almost all citizens. Only in the 19th century after the construction of the railway began economic growth, which continues to this day. Now Aarhus (Denmark), located on the coast of the bay in eastern Jutland, is also an important port of the state.
Open-air museum
Its main attraction is the Old Town. A true open-air museum delights tourists who touch history. Receiving visitors since 1914, it serves up to three million people. 75 beautiful buildings, collected from different settlements of the state, were dismantled by pebbles, transported to the city and then reassembled. All buildings underwent extensive restoration.
The museum traveled a lot around the country, but finally settled in Aarhus (Denmark). The highest cathedral in Denmark is dedicated to the patron saint of sailors - St. Clement. The height of the nave is 96 meters, and a spacious inner hall accommodates more than 200 parishioners. Here is an ancient organ, numbering six thousand three hundred and fifty pipes. Also, tourists admire the gilded altar created by the brilliant painter and sculptor Notke, and multi-colored frescoes that have not lost their beauty over several centuries.
Cultural capital
The colorful Aarhus (Denmark), bearing the title of the capital of Jutland, is considered an important cultural and educational center of the country. There are a huge number of interesting museums, the exhibits of which acquaint with the rich history of the city and the state as a whole. And in art galleries there are many works of modern masters.

The Aarhus Symphony Orchestra (Denmark), well known throughout the country, gives performances here. The city botanical garden is a favorite vacation spot for citizens and tourists. Several thousand plant species are collected here, but the most interesting is the collection of exotic orchids.
