Stupino is the average city in Russia by population. The city is located 99 km south of Moscow and is the regional center of the Stupino district of the Moscow region. Its area is 35.5 km 2 . History
All the settlements that make up the district were known at the beginning of the 16th century. Where Stupino is located, in 1578 the village of Kashirsky Uyezd was located in the possession of the Belopesotsky Monastery. In 1931, the seat was chosen by the Communist Party secretariat for the construction of a train factory. The territory was named the working village of Electric Locomotive. Around the new enterprise grew a school, hospital and a bakery. But it ceased to exist, and construction sites were used to establish new factories for the production of aircraft industry products.
In 1938, the village of Elektrovoz received the status of a city and was again named Stupino. In the Moscow region, after the Great Patriotic War, the territory belonging to the district expanded. It included nearby state farms; concrete and plastic plants were built.
Memorable places and infrastructure
The main attraction is the Trinity Belopesotsky convent, founded in the XV century. The cathedral includes the churches of St. Sergius of Radonezh, Nicholas the Wonderworker, the Beheading of John the Baptist. Significant value for history are the white-stone gravestones of the 17th century, which are in the necropolis.
Today, the area where Stupino is located is clean and green. The city has a developed infrastructure. The Palace of Culture, a club, libraries, an art gallery, and schools operate here.
