What is hiding under such an honorary title?
Cities of military glory of Russia. This badge of honor began to assign relatively recently. It was received by individual cities for the perseverance, courage and courage that were shown by their defenders in the struggle for freedom and independence.
The provision in which the conditions and procedure for awarding a sufficiently honorary title are formed was approved in December 2006 by the president of the country.
The necessary conditions
In the city, which was awarded the title "City of Military Glory":
1. The installation of the steles is carried out, on which the emblem of the corresponding place is depicted together with the text of the decree on the conferment of the title.
2. Various events and festive volleys take place on such days as February 23, May 9 and City Day.
All these requirements must be fulfilled without fail by those cities that received such an honorary meritorious title.
Bit of history
For the first time the title “City of Military Glory” was awarded to Kursk, Oryol, Belgorod. The certificates were handed directly to the heads of administrations. It happened in 2007, namely on May 7.
After some time, namely on November 7, the president read out a new order, which said about the assignment of the title "City of Military Glory" to several more places. In the Catherine’s Hall, the necessary letters were presented to the mayors. We are talking about cities such as Vladikavkaz, Yelnya, Yelets, Malgobek and Rzhev.
Two years later, at the beginning of September, the first commemorative stele was opened. It received the corresponding name - "City of Military Glory." The opening took place in the city of Dmitrov in the Moscow region.
In March 25, 2010, decrees were signed on conferring the honorary title on such cities as Volokolamsk, Nalchik, Bryansk, Rostov-on-Don, Vyborg. After some time, namely on November 4, this title was received by Vladivostok, Tikhvin, Tver.
A year later, on May 5, cities such as Stary Oskol, Kolpino, Anapa already received the honorary title. The presentation of letters to the heads of administrations occurred only on June 22 of the same year. After several months, namely November 3, cities such as Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Taganrog, Lomonosov, Kovrov were awarded the honorary title. All necessary documentation was handed over to the mayors on February 23, 2012.
On May 7, 2012, the list of “Cities of Military Glory” was replenished with Maloyaroslavets and Mozhaisk. The corresponding decree was signed by the president. November 3 of the same year, the title was received by Khabarovsk. After that, not a single city has yet received such high recognition. The list has not been updated since 2012.
Which cities received the honorary title?
How many cities of military glory are there at the moment? There are not so many of them. Only 40 settlements were awarded such an honorary award. And they should be listed so that people know what feat they accomplished during the war years.

This is the list of cities that have received the title, so far has ended. Perhaps in the near future it will be updated with new names, since it cannot be said that during the war there were cities whose inhabitants did not show courage, trying to stop the danger looming on their homeland.
Symbol of the city of military glory
The stela was approved by the Organizing Committee under the name Victory. This happened after summing up the results of the All-Russian competition. A memorial stela means a column topped with the emblem of the Russian Federation. It is installed on the corresponding pedestal, on the front side of which is the text of the decree on the appointment of the honorary title.
In the corners of the square are special bas-reliefs, which depict certain events that served as the reason for receiving the title.
Complex opening
In 2010, the opening of the architectural ensemble called "The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier". This happened after all the necessary restoration work. The complex is located in the Alexander Garden near the Moscow Kremlin. The structure contains a stele on which the names of all cities with an honorary title are marked.
