Serbia Currency
From the middle of the XV to the beginning of the XIX century, the country was ruled by the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, the currency of Serbia at that time was the Ottoman piastra. After the end of the war of independence, the country began to use its money. And since 1867, the national currency of Serbia was called the Serbian dinar. But from the moment the country became part of Yugoslavia, the Yugoslav dinar became the official currency. For a long period of time, the currency of Serbia has been volatile. During the Second World War, Serbian and Yugoslav dinars, German marks, Italian lyres were used.
When four states separated from Yugoslavia in 1991-1992, including Serbia, the country began to use such a monetary unit as the Slovenian tolar. He lasted until 2006. It was then that Serbia became an independent state and the national currency again became the Serbian dinar (international code RSD), which is equivalent to one hundred par.
Today in Serbia, the following denominations are relevant:
- banknotes: 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 and 5000 RSD;
- coins: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 dinars.
