For summer models of blouses or when making air shawls, lighter and loose knitting is required. Using interesting patterns as an example, let’s look at how to make a mesh cloth. This article provides a description of the implementation of products "Solomon" crochet loops and braided using the macrame technique.
The history of the unusual name of the needlework element
Why is the "Solomon loop" design so strange? Where did this unusual name come from? The history of the trellised type of weaving is rooted in the distant past. In the old days, all men were warriors, which means they had appropriate clothing. To protect the body chain mail was woven. According to their properties, they were different. Some consisted of strong forged parts joined together, others were knitted from hard threads. The canvas, as a rule, was mesh, and not continuous. Surely, the pattern got its modern name thanks to one of the warriors, who, perhaps, was the first to propose to make protective clothes easier due to thinning knitting. It is this main property that modern patterns made by Solomon loops have. We will consider two options for work in which completely different needlework techniques will be applied.
How do crocheted "Solomon" loops fit?
This needlework technique consists of several stages. So, we will consider how knitting is carried out. The Solomon’s loop is braided as follows:
- pull the initial loop to a certain distance (from 1 to 1.5 cm);
- perform through the elongated loop a second, small in size;
- Pry off the first loop and knit it (two loops should remain on the hook);
- Pass the working thread through these two loops;
- pull the thread again at the same distance as in step 1;
- knit a small loop through an elongated thread;
- Pry the first loop again and knit it, and knit two threads on the hook with one loop;
- perform on the base of the canvas (backing off some distance) an unfinished single crochet, which then turns into the next Solomon loop;
- at the beginning of the second row for lifting, make an element of two nodes;
- then knit again two more Solomon loops;
- fasten them with a single crochet, passing through the threads between the two loops of the elongated element of the previous row in the middle part.
How to use the macrame technique to knit a pattern with "Solomon" loops?
A similar lattice canvas can be obtained by applying other handmade skills. It turns out that with "Solomon" loops, you can execute a pattern not only with a crochet. This name is sometimes referred to as one of the elements of the macrame technique. According to the accepted traditional symbolism, this is an ordinary double flat knot. You can organize its weaving in the form of a canvas, alternating and changing the use of the main and side threads from several knots in a checkerboard pattern. In this case, due to the low density and elongation between the elements, a grid effect is obtained. Such an embodiment of a double planar knot can be called "Solomon", since the weaving will be similar to a crocheted lattice pattern.
Crochet shawl
Despite the fact that the "Solomon" loops form a fairly loose and loose canvas, they are used to make shawls. Such products turn out to be light, lush and warm at the same time, especially when using, for example, wool yarn (mohair, angora, etc.). According to the chosen model, the necessary technology of work is determined. If it is planned to obtain a triangular product, then the expansion will be carried out by knitting along the edges of additional "Solomon" loops. The easiest way to make a rectangular shawl in the form of a long and wide light stole. When knitting, the threads in the "Solomon" ornament are stretched no less than 2-2.5 cm. Therefore, it is more advisable to use a larger hook number than the one that corresponds to the thickness of this thread. Additional strapping in a circle, as a rule, is not carried out.
Interesting properties of knitted "Solomon" fabric loops
To make the finished product look neat and beautiful, it is important to observe the following rules:
- All "Solomon" loops should be the same size. Therefore, before starting work on knitting the canvas, practice the chain of elongated knots;
- Follow the principle of the golden mean so that the pattern is harmonious. Too long loops with very thin yarn will not look pretty. Lattice cloth with large cells is better to knit with threads having a thickness above average;
- using too elongated loops in your work, keep in mind that the canvas will have the property of an accordion. When pulled, it will seem longer, while in a free state it will be voluminous and light, like corrugation.
This interesting technique of knitting a mesh ornament allows you to get light things with durable weaving. After training in the manufacture of simple things in the form of scarves and scarves, you can begin to create fashionable models of summer blouses.
