Preparation for the New Year holidays is always exciting: you need to buy gifts, decorate the room. A very original option is kanzashi-snowflake. It is made easy, but looks like a fabulous souvenir. With this product, you can transform the interior or use as a gift, additions to it.
Christmas Kanzashi snowflake
As can be seen from the photographs presented in the article, these products look very beautiful and spectacular. To make them, you need only satin ribbons or fabric. Due to the volume of the design, the play of light and shadow in the elements of kanzashi-snowflake looks so beautiful. All parts are securely fastened, so you do not have to redo the decor every year, as is the case with paper decorations that are torn and quickly become worthless. Another advantage of such crafts is the simplicity of manufacture, because making them is not more difficult than paper ones. You can decorate with satin ribbon decor a window, a Christmas tree, a New Year's costume, and even make a garland.
What is required
Kanzashi snowflake should be done carefully and sequentially, so it's best to find everything you need in advance. During work, do not be distracted by the search for missing materials. So, prepare the following:
- Satin ribbons of different widths (from 5 mm for decorating the frame to 5 cm for the manufacture of large elements).
- A fabric of suitable quality, color and texture (nylon, organza).
- Scissors.
- Lighter, candle, matches.
- Tweezers clamp (for convenience).
- A needle with a thread.
- Thermal gun.
- Cardboard.
- The wire.
- Decor (beads, beads, sequins, for example in the form of snowflakes).
- Braid or decorative cord for the manufacture of pendants (optional).
The list is presented to the maximum. In a minimal set, you can do with ribbons, scissors, a lighter and tweezers.
How to fold a single petal
How is Kanzashi snowflake made? The master class will teach you how to collect simple blanks for its creation.
Work as follows:
- Cut the tape or other prepared fabric into squares.
- Treat slices above a candle flame or lighter.
- Fold the square in half, and then another half in half. The layers can be glued together with a thermal gun, sewn together with threads or heated to the docking point above the lighter and squeezed properly with tweezers so that the parts fuse.
- Cut the bottom corner of the resulting workpiece so that it takes the form of a petal that looks like a ringlet.
- Having completed many of these details, you can make them elements of rays for snowflakes and middles from the desired number of parts.
How to make a double petal
To make beautiful kanzashi snowflakes (photo below), you need to make double petals.
The technology is as follows:
- As for single, cut the tape into squares. You can make a double element from the same or from different-sized blanks. In the first case, you will have to cut an additional bottom of the petal. Colors and even textures are better to choose different. So it will be more effective.
- Fold both squares separately to triangles.
- Repeat the previous step again.
- Lay one triangle on the other (smaller to larger).
- Perform the third addition of both workpieces together.
- Connect, like a single part, with a lighter, thread or hot melt adhesive.
Kanzashi snowflake: master class
If you have mastered the method of manufacturing simple elements (single or double), you can begin to create a beautiful winter decor. To get the same beautiful kanzashi snowflakes (photo below), you just need to combine the details made in different versions.
To form the midpoints of snowflakes, one can make an element consisting of larger double petals with smaller single or the same double blanks glued into the middle. In addition, you can decorate the middle of each petal by enclosing and securing a drop-shaped pearl bead. It’s easy to create a huge number of options. It all depends on your imagination, perseverance and desire.
Snowflake assembly is carried out by two methods:
- Without a frame.
- On a wire-cardboard basis.
The second method is suitable for large products with long beams.
Small snowflakes can be made by the first method. In a variant without a frame, a snowflake
using the kanzashi technique is simply assembled by gluing elements together. First, blanks from several petals are assembled, and then large parts are interconnected.
Assembling snowflakes on the frame
If you decide to work with the framework, the sequence will be as follows:
- When the required number of petals is ready, cut a circle out of cardboard on the diameter of a snowflake revolution to close the joints of the parts. Make the same circle, only of a larger diameter, from fabric.
- Put the cardboard blank on the fabric and pull the edges of the fabric along the inner contour of the cardboard circle.
- Cut the blanks for the beams from the wire (3 large and as many small). The size is equal to the diameter of the snowflake (after the wire can be cut in half).
- Wrap the wire with corrugated paper (or replace it with a tissue). Coat with glue.
- Glue narrow satin ribbons of suitable color to the wires (they will be on the back).
- Cut the beam blanks into two parts.
- Proceed with the assembly. Collect the middle of a snowflake, for example, of 6 petals. Glue the blank to a round cardboard-fabric base.
Glue the prepared details of the beams to the wire of the frame. - Glue all the rays to the circle on the back of the snowflake. This can be completed, but if you need a more accurate back side, make a second circle of fabric and glue it with the upper layer. It is easy to attach a magnet to it. The circle can also be with a cardboard base inside.
- Refine the front side: decorate with beads, if desired, process the corners of each element with glitter gel.
Thus, kanzashi-snowflake is a beautiful decor that is not difficult to make, and there are many options for its application.
