Knitting a headband on a head is a task that, without exaggeration, can be mastered by almost all knitters. Many articles on knitting contain a similar statement, but here it is really justified. By and large, the bandage is a strip of knitted fabric, sewn to the side or made round and without a seam at all.
What yarn can be used for dressings
As a rule, we knit a bandage on the head with knitting needles to insulate in the off-season. When caps are removed, but the weather is still too cold to completely exclude hats from your wardrobe, a minimized version of the cap is put into operation.
Dressings cover your head, covering your ears and forehead, providing the necessary warmth and without wrinkling your hair. The material for knitting dressings should be chosen the same as for hats: with a high content of wool or angora. Natural fibers in the thread should be at least 30%, otherwise the accessory simply will not perform its task.
The thickness of the yarn can be absolutely any. True, threads thicker than 100 m / 100 grams give the knitting a certain roughness. If this is not a planned effect, then it is better to choose something thinner. As with many other knitwear, yarn with a thickness of 250-300 m / 100 grams should be considered optimal.
How to navigate patterns and diagrams
Modern craftswomen have access to all the knitting tricks accumulated over the long history of the development of this craft. Now you do not need to flip through the magazine for the hundredth time with the patterns studied along and across. You can choose absolutely any ornament; here the experience and skills of the knitter become decisive.

Most often, such accessories are knitted in short rows located across the product, so it is more convenient to use ornaments with longitudinal rapports.
Sometimes you can find other ways of knitting (for example, round), but they are a little more complicated and will not be considered by us.
The simplest dressing models
To quickly tie a functional and practical dressing, you can apply elementary elastic 1: 1 or 2: 2. They are bilateral, which excludes the presence of the front and the wrong side. They also give the canvas a certain density. The disadvantage of these dressings can be called their unoriginality and the lack of "zest".
Also, a honeycomb or rice pattern is often chosen to knit headbands with knitting needles. The patterns of these ornaments are extremely popular.
Depending on the thickness of the yarn, 12-18 loops are drawn on the knitting needles and work according to the selected scheme, forming an even fabric. When it reaches 50 cm in length, work is stopped.
The dressing is sewn on the back and tied around the edge with single crochet or “wraps” steps. True, the last stage can not be performed and leave the bandage as is.
Using Arana to make dressings
Arana, braids or harnesses are all one name for designation of patterns consisting of interwoven loops. You can apply elementary or more complex braids, as well as their combination, to get really interesting headbands with knitting needles. Schemes of the simplest arana are proposed below. Shown here is a braid that forms when six loops are interlaced to the right. The weave interval is 10 rows.

Here a combination of two patterns is used: braids and “boucle”.
Knitting: Headband with knitting needles
To create such an accessory, you need to dial 16 loops on the knitting needles (including hem). Each first loop is removed, and the last is always the front.
Knitting Stages:
- 1 LITSP, 1 DIF, 1 LITS, 1 DIF, 6 LITS, 1 DIF, 1 LITSP, 1 DIF, 1 LITS.

- 1 SPEI, 1 LITSP, 2 SPIs, 6 LITSP, 2 SPIs, 1 LITSP, 1 SPI.

- Repeat row 1-4.
- 1 LITSP, 1 SPI, 1 LIPP, 1 SPI, 6 LICPs cross to the right, 1 SPI, 1 LICP, 1 SPI, 1 LICP.

- Repeat rapport from the 1st to the 11th row until the canvas is equal to 50 cm in height.
At this stage, all the loops must be closed and the edges of the dressing sewn from the wrong side. On both sides, tie the edges with a "crustacean step".
Creation of complex combinations and ornaments
Combining different patterns or coming up with your own options for weaving, you can knit extremely beautiful headbands with knitting needles. Schemes of several rather complex patterns are given below.
They are based on one principle: some large element is placed in the center, and simple background ornaments or narrow aranas from several loops are placed around the edges.

It will be convenient to separate it and apply only one of two components for the dressing: braids in the central part or a braid with an edge.
