Lime hydrate (fluff, slaked lime), the formula of which is Ca (OH) 2, does not require special storage conditions. Material is allowed to be kept in open space. Only a canopy is needed to protect it from precipitation.
To completely extinguish fifty-six kilograms of lime into powder, about forty liters of water should be used up, which is about sixty-nine percent of the volume of lime taken. In the event that less fluid is taken, the process will be incomplete.
If slaked lime is produced in a confined space, and water vapor does not have the ability to be removed at the same time, then the process will be complete even if less liquid is used. However, the amount of water should be close to theoretically necessary.
In contact with 2, the “kipelka” (what lime is made of) begins to absorb it. In the process, the raw materials crack, crumbling gradually into the smallest powder. In this case, heat generation is observed in large quantities.
The cleaner the lime, the fuller and faster it crumbles during the quenching process. As a result, the fluff powder is more delicate and voluminous. Slaked lime is usually produced in the factory. The most common way in which a heap formed from pieces of "boiling water" on a pre-platform or rammed platform begins to be watered with water, sprinkling with a layer of sand. Sand is required to trap water vapor.
Another economically less profitable and therefore less commonly used method of production is the method of immersion in water. Pieces of “boiling water” are then put in baskets (iron or woven from willow rods) and dipped in 2. They keep the raw materials until the moment when the water begins to turn white. It should be said that this method is very time-consuming.
The most perfect is considered to be a method of converting raw materials into powder by using hot steam on it. To extinguish using this method, an iron cauldron is used that is strong enough and has a tightly closed neck. The tank is equipped with a pressure gauge and
safety valve. The required amount of raw material is poured into the boiler, given the increase in volume as a result. Then pour the right amount of water and, hermetically closing the container, begin to rotate it. So, the process of scattering is accelerated. Under the influence of high pressure, the temperature in the boiler rises to one hundred degrees. Extinguishing as a result is complete and quick.
Slaked lime is poorly soluble in water. When mixing sand and lime dough, a solution is obtained that is widely used in the commissioning of finishing, in particular, plastering works.
