Moscow is a unique city with centuries-old history and unique architecture. What could be nicer than strolling through the enchanted streets of the capital on a quiet summer evening? Many residents and guests of the capital are in the eternal search for places for walking among an incredible variety of options. Today I would like to talk about Slavyanskaya Square, which is located in the heart of Moscow.
Location and history of the square
Geographically, Slavyanskaya Square is located between three passages - Kitaygorodsky, Solyansky and Lubyansky.
The modern square has a relatively recent history. It was formed in 1992 in honor of the opening of the monument to the great Russian enlighteners Cyril and Methodius. That is why the place presented was named after the Slavic script.
Initially, Slavyanskaya Square was called Barbarian, in honor of the Church of the Great Martyr Barbara, located in this area since the 15th century. During the reign of Emperor Peter I, this square was the place of the so-called “Prison of Prisons”, in which city rowdy and drunkards were imprisoned.
Today Slavyanskaya Square in Moscow is one of the main places of rallies, pickets and clashes. In 2005, the first Russian march in Russian history took place in this place, and in 2007, an ethnic clash took place on the square between Russian and Caucasian youth.
Sights of Slavyansk Square
The main cultural heritage of the square is considered to be a monument to Cyril and Methodius and the Church of All Saints in Kulishki. Also, when walking around this metropolitan place on the houses, you can see memorial tablets dedicated to the victims of Stalin's repressions. Among them are the names of the engineers Golfer and Chekunov, as well as the economist Renzin.
Also on Slavyanskaya square there are metropolitan business centers with developed infrastructure. This feature attracts many investors who want to have their offices in the heart of the capital.
