In the 19th century, a scenic plot of land was bought by an American whose brother was elected governor of Texas. And the name of the magical pond was given in honor of the Hamilton family. The lake, however, gained its fame with immigrants from Germany, who bought the territory from their brothers and tried to earn money on arranging a spa holiday.
Only 30 years ago, the state authorities thought about preserving the national heritage, because because of the huge number of people visiting the picturesque places, the ecological system of the park began to suffer. The incredibly popular Hamilton Lake was taken under the protection of the local administration, and now there is a reserve on the territory, the entrance to which costs only ten dollars.
Rules for visiting the reserve
Now there are strict rules, violations of which are severely punished by the authorities. It is forbidden to bring glass bottles to the lake, to make fire, to put up tents and even ride mountain bikes. Local youth, who chose the reservoir as their favorite vacation spot, liked to jump into the lake directly from the top of the waterfall, but now it is also not allowed. The use of raw water from the Hamilton basin is not allowed: the lake contains an increased number of microorganisms, as swallows make nests right under the arch of the underground grotto. A dedicated service takes samples daily for health-threatening bacteria.
Floods due to rains may not allow entry to a local attraction. Therefore, it is recommended that all tourists preliminary determine whether the lake is open for visits and swimming.
