This is not just fashionable and stylish, but a necessary thing to protect your head. It can be purchased in the store, but it is more interesting to create it with your own hands, because no one will have such an accessory.
The bathing cap should reliably protect hair, the parietal area, the eyes and the back of the head. For sewing use exclusively natural materials, preferably wool. It does not create a "greenhouse effect", prevents the formation of dandruff. The bath hat should fit the size of your head. The material from which the product is made must not lose color and sit during washing.

Such a fashionable and practical accessory can be made in an hour. Sewing does not require special skill and experience. You will need patience and a little imagination.
Measure the volume of the head with a centimeter tape. It should pass along the forehead and crown. Depth is measured from ear to crown. The number that will be obtained when taking measurements should be divided by six. You will get the number of wedges.
Take one wedge and redraw the outline on paper. You should get an elongated isosceles triangle. Round its ribs so that the product fits better on the head. You will receive a bath cap pattern detail. Each of them should be duplicated.
Advice! Do it on special paper for patterns - graph paper. Cardboard or a hard transparent film can also be used.
Also draw on paper:
- visor (2 pcs.);
- loop (2 pcs.);
- lapel (2 pcs.).
Cut parts and transfer to material.
Advice! If you have taken for sewing not very thick fabric: linen or cotton, then it can be folded twice to increase the thickness of the product. Keep in mind that with high humidity, natural fabrics sit approximately 30-40%. In order for the product to become small with time, add 1 cm to the depth of the cap, and 10-15 mm on the sides.
Sew a hat
You can start the product manually or on a sewing machine. Thin fabric is easy to machine. Felt or thick felt will have to be sewn by hand. The holes for the stitch will need to be done with an awl. Next, sew all the wedges. Stitch the visor and the loop.
Felting bath hats
There are two types of felting: dry and wet. We will consider the second, since the first requires more experience and skill.
No special tools are needed for work - everything can be found at home. The only thing that will have to be purchased is the fleece itself. To give the product a shape, you need a piece of dense linoleum or cellophane. You will also need:
- bag for washing;
- soap solution (1 part liquid and 4 soaps);
- spray;
- three-liter jar (this will replace the blank).
Work stages
- Take measurements from the head as described above. When felting, the size must be increased by 30%, since the wool always shrinks. The easiest way is to take a finished knitted hat and use it as a pattern.
- Separate thin fibers from a whole piece of wool and lay them on the pattern in different directions. This is necessary so that the material adheres better. When laying wool, do not be afraid to go beyond the edges of the template. All unnecessary then turn up. It must be laid very tightly, so that in no case there are gaps. Try to have the same amount of wool throughout the area.
- Consider the future product in the light. If there are holes, then they need to be closed. The thickness of the future felt should be the same everywhere.
- Spread a bubble wrap. Put the blank in the laundry bag and place on the film. Cover with soap and water using a spray bottle.
- Pat the workpiece until a resistant foam is formed. Walk on it with a rolling pin.
- Peel off the film. Turn the workpiece over and place it on the piece. Tuck the excess under the pattern. Hold it down.
- Beat the foam and lather the product well. Wash it with your hands until it ceases to disintegrate into fibers, and becomes a solid canvas.
- Put the future hat on the blank and smooth the edges. Leave to dry.
- Type in a basin of cold water. Rinse the product. Now drain the cold and add hot water. Alternate a liquid of different temperatures several times. Squeeze out the excess. Do not twist. Return it to the blank or bottle. Shape the bath cap and allow it to dry away from central heating batteries and exposed sunlight.
- After the product is dry, cut off all excess to form a helmet. Decorate it with pieces of multi-colored wool, felt ornaments.
Types of wool for felting
Before you buy wool, you need to know about its varieties. To make bath hats with your own hands, you can use:
- Cardos. His second name is “wool wool”. Products from it are quite thick. Good for beginners, as wallowing it is very easy. Suitable for felting both wet and dry.
- Sliver. This is a combed type of yarn. There are no hard hairs in it. Unpainted, therefore, is cheaper than color counterparts. A great choice for felting bath hats.
- Colored combed wool. Qualitative and expensive type of material. It has thin unidirectional fibers. Often used to decorate bath hats.
- Merino wool. Elite material. Used in the manufacture of delicate things. They make expensive designer hats out of it.
Working with wool is a pleasure. Natural material is pleasant to the touch, environmentally friendly and gives room for imagination. To knit a product out of it is faster than to knit from yarn or to sew a similar one from fabric.
