So, hauling a steering wheel with leather with your own hands is very easy, and it is available even for a novice motorist. Classic - black color
The first thing to think about when deciding to make the steering wheel with leather by replacing the cover is the choice of material color. But this problem is quite easy to solve. - cover the plastic layer with paper sticky tape;
- draw a future cut line with a marker or pen;
- with a sharp knife, carefully dissect the film layer stretched over the steering wheel according to the drawn marks, resulting in several large parts;
- perform cutting by applying the material to the paper and circling taking into account the allowances for the seams (15-18 mm), as the hauling of the skin on the steering wheel is carried out with a certain supply of material.
- Try the received parts on the steering wheel to make sure that the cutting is correct.
Making a new steering wheel: stitching parts and stretching
- Fold all received parts in the necessary sequence and stitch. At the same time, adjust the machine so that it turns out not too frequent, but not rare stitches. It is advisable to overcast all open sections to avoid scattering of the edge. For work, you need to take threads containing kapron (for greater strength).
- Pull the semi-finished leather cover onto the steering wheel. The canvas should lie easily and freely. But at the same time, the part must necessarily measure the body tightly.
- Smooth wrinkles and bumps.
- In conclusion, do the most important work - connecting the edges of the canvas.
- You can use one of the three sewing techniques for this - macramé, pigtail, or sports stitch. Any of the options looks ready-made neatly, moreover, they are all very reliable.
- Establish the sheathed steering wheel in its place and check the strength of fastening.
