The city of St. Petersburg is traditionally famous for its diverse landscape park areas. They are located both in the city itself and in its nearest historically famous surroundings. Murinsky Park in the Kalinin district is one of the youngest objects of this kind. In fact, it is in the process of formation. The intention to equip the park in this place was first proclaimed by the city authorities in the eighties of the last century. But real work on the arrangement of the park zone in the floodplain of Murinsky Creek began about twenty years later.
What is Murinsky park today?
The territory of the park is significant, totaling 115 hectares. There are not so many vast green areas in this part of the city. This circumstance makes it a natural recreational area for residents of the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg. In compositional terms, Murinsky Park is a landscape design of the natural floodplain of the Murinsky Creek, which is a tributary of the Okhta. In the process of arranging the park territory, a significant amount of land restoration work was carried out . A significant problem is the ecological state of the Murinsky Stream itself, into which contaminated effluents from large areas merge uncontrollably. Nevertheless, the administration manages to maintain cleanliness in the park at an acceptable level. Its territory has both walks and active leisure activities.

In 2009, Murinsky Park acquired several routes for cycling. Bicycle paths are laid taking into account the terrain, they vary both in length and in complexity. There are several fairly steep climbs and descents.
Cycling lovers have the opportunity at any time to evaluate the quality of these tracks. To do this, they just need to come to Murinsky Park. Bicycle rental is organized on site and the price level is quite acceptable. The park is only just being formed and developed. In general,
this natural landscape complex has good prospects for becoming in the near future a favorite vacation spot for residents of the northern part of St. Petersburg.
Conceptual art project
Sculpture Garden is one of the most interesting projects that Murinsky Park is famous for. Photos of these sculptural objects have been repeatedly published in periodicals devoted to the problems of urban planning and landscape design as an example of the proper placement of large sculptural forms in the natural environment. At the source of this project back in 1985 was the famous Leningrad sculptor Alexander Chernitsky. Unfortunately, of the six granite works of the master, only four have survived to date. But the very idea of ββan open-air sculpture garden has tremendous development potential. There are many sculptural workshops in St. Petersburg, and the craftsmen who work in them need exhibition spaces for their works. And Murinsky Park for this is a suitable site. Similar projects have been successfully implemented in many cities in Europe.
