Twister is one of the most popular games in the United States. It is played by everyone, from children to adults, and everywhere - at children's mornings, parties, picnics or just during gatherings with friends ... We offer you to learn how to make the game "Twister" with your own hands.
History
Fans of the Twister game should thank two American inventors for their creation - Twister Charles F. Foley and Neil W. Rabens.
It is difficult to imagine, but in the early years of its existence, the fun was not very popular. And all because of the wrong marketing move. Instead of promoting the product among young people (whom this game is perfectly suited for), for some reason, the management decided that their potential customers should be average American mothers aged about 35 years old.
Fun would have been lost on the shelves of toy stores, if not for His Majesty's case. The host of the very popular Tonight Show, Johnny Carson, on May 3, 1966, suggested playing the guest star Eve Gabor in Twister. And while the actress elegantly moved around the playing field in her evening dress, most of the audience rushed to ring the shops and place an order for the purchase of Twister. After this momentous day, over three million copies of the game were sold during the year.
Today, “Twister” is still popular, both in native America and in other countries. All rights reserved by Hasbro.
Game description
The game “Twister” consists of a large playing field (mat), which is laid out on the floor, and roulette.
The size of the mat is 150 x 180 centimeters. It is an oilcloth or sheet on which large circles of green, red, blue and yellow in four rows are painted.
Roulette is like a clock, only the arrows do not move themselves, but are rotated by the players. The “dial” is divided into four segments, which are also divided by color.
Roulette Information
Segment | Color |
Right leg | Red |
Right hand | Blue |
Left leg | Green |
Left hand | Yellow |
Rules of the game
The playing field is laid out on flat ground. In addition to the players themselves, there must also be a host who will spin roulette. The number of participants is not limited. Just if there are a lot of people, share on teams.
Game process:
- Participants either stand around the playing field or occupy cells.
- The host spins the roulette, after which he selects the player and tells him the combination of body and color (for example, his right leg and red). This means that the participant must stand on any red circle with his right foot.
- After each move, the leader spins the roulette wheel and calls the next combination to the next player.
- If the participant has a combination that he already takes, then he should still make a move.
- The same circle cannot be occupied by two players and body parts.
- If during the game circles of any color are completely occupied, the leader continues to spin the roulette until a free color falls out.
- Prior to the announcement of a new combination, the player is prohibited from taking his arm or leg off the field.
- If a player falls or touches the knee or elbow of the playing field, he is eliminated from the game.
- The victory goes to the one who was able to stay on the playing field the longest.
How to make a “Twister” with your own hands?
Of course, you can buy a ready-made game. But much nicer to do it yourself. And if you involve children in the process of creation? There will be no limit to delight, believe me! Even if you do not know how to make a “Twister” with your own hands, do not worry. There is nothing complicated. The main thing is desire, imagination and the presence of at least some materials.
So you will need:
1. For the playing field:
- oilcloth, sheet, piece of white cloth, Whatman paper - for the basis;
- fabric dye, fabric itself, paper - for circles of blue, red, green and yellow.
2. For roulette:
- plate, board, cardboard - for the base;
- markers, paints, colored paper, pencils - to fill sectors;
- arrow, pencil, wand - for pointer.
3. Additional tools:
- scissors;
- tassels;
- needle with thread;
- glue.
How to make a playing field?
Regardless of what the Twister game is made of with one's own hands (from fabric, oilcloth or paper), the standard playing field should have a size of 150 x 180 cm.
After the base is ready, proceed to create six circles. They can be:
- cut from fabric, then sew or glue with special glue to the base;
- draw with paint;
- cut out of paper and stick to the base.
In the standard game, there is a certain order of filling the playing field with circles:
- 1 row - red;
- 2 row - blue;
- 3 row - yellow;
- 4th row - green.
You can scatter circles in a chaotic manner at your discretion. So it will be even more interesting. The main thing is to observe the proportion - 6 circles in 4 colors.
How to make roulette?
We offer you to create the game "Twister" do-it-yourself templates of two variants of roulettes.
The first is classic, in the shape of a square or circle. This roulette is easiest to do as follows:
1. Take a thick cardboard or thin board. Can be painted in any color as desired.
2. Make sectors: draw with paints, markers, pencils or cut out and stick separate parts from paper.
3. Make a rotating pointer in the center of the roulette wheel:
- take a stick (for example, from ice cream), make a small hole in it in the middle, attach it to the board with a bolt and nut;
- cut the arrow out of thick cardboard and attach it to the dial with a small clove;
- just put a pencil in the middle of the roulette.
Segments should be as follows:
- left leg: marks (circles or squares) of red, green, yellow and blue;
- left hand: marks of red, green, yellow and blue;
- right leg: marks of red, green, yellow and blue;
- right hand: marks of red, blue, yellow and green.
An example is shown in the picture.
Second roulette option
The game “Twister” could not resist the innovations. Making your own original fun is not so difficult. For example, you can take dice as an alternative to roulette .
You will need to make two cubes - one with the color, the other with the part of the body. Their feature is that the number of sides will be four, not six, like dice.
Therefore, we suggest you make cubes resembling a brick in shape (as indicated in the picture).
There are two options for creating dice.
First:
- Cut two identical cube layouts out of cardboard, then gently glue them together.
- Wait until the glue dries.
- Take one cube and stick on the long sides or draw the pictures themselves, indicating the parts of the body: left leg, right leg, left hand, right hand.
- Take another cube and either paint over the long sides, or paste them over with colored paper in the appropriate colors: red, blue, green and yellow.
The second option:
- Do two layouts on the computer: one with color, the other with body parts.
- Print out both options.
- Glue the layouts into cubes.
The game is ready. To prevent your Twister from getting damaged or lost, select a special box under it.
