Good household appliances are never superfluous, the stumbling block is most often its size. Many of us thought about this when, when buying another thing, we lost in our minds where and how to place it. And this applies not only to televisions, electric fireplaces or refrigerators - even such a seemingly compact thing like a microwave oven can become a big problem for a small kitchen in one-room apartments.
The size of the microwave, of course, is immediately taken into account upon purchase. And large microwave ovens, which are plentiful in the market, can discourage potential buyers from acquiring them. There can only be one way out - to look for small microwaves, which will be discussed in this article. Such devices have several advantages and disadvantages. And we will talk about them further.
The size of the microwave depends not only on the size of the case itself, but also on the internal parts. So, the larger the volume of the chamber for dishes - the larger the case. Therefore, if you have little space in the kitchen, and you dream of a small and compact microwave oven, do not think that you can put large containers with food in it. Small microwaves are more suitable for heating or cooking in a medium-sized plate, but not in special large vessels.
Microwave Solo Oven
Basically, all small microwave ovens fall into two categories:
- Solo oven. The main function of such a device is the preparation / heating of food using microwaves. Unlike microwave ovens, this function is the only one for which such microwaves got such a name. The volume of solo ovens is much smaller than the volume of other microwaves, even among small devices and, on average, is eight and a half liters.
- Microwave. A full-fledged and multi-functional device. Not only microwaves, but grills are at your disposal. Such stoves may well replace the oven, because housewives are crazy about them. The problem is only in size - usually they are twice as many solo ovens.
The purpose of acquiring a microwave and its size
The size of a microwave depends primarily on functionality. If you need a device for heating food, and you won’t do any complicated culinary processes on it, pay attention to simple solo ovens. So you save both money and precious space in the kitchen.
On the other hand, if you expect a “miracle” and a panacea for everything from the kitchen from the microwave, and at the same time find no place for such a device, we will disappoint you.
Pros of a Solo Oven
A solo oven may well “feed” a family of four. Moreover, such devices have quite good power - up to 900 watts - which allows you to cope with heating food quickly and without unnecessary effort. A solo oven is a salvation for young parents: the device perfectly copes with baby food, which must certainly have the right temperature so that the child does not catch a cold.
The exact dimensions of small microwave ovens
So, what about the size of the microwave more specifically? What are they like? Words are words, but in order to determine the dimensions of the devices and whether it is worth filling the already cramped kitchen, we need more clear data, even if we are talking about the smallest microwave ovens.
The dimensions of most devices are on average 50 centimeters in width and length, and about 40 cm in depth. The smallest devices with parameters of 30 centimeters are the most compact and lightest. The volume of the inner chamber for microwave ovens of this type rarely reaches more than 16 liters, the diameter of the turning saucer is 24 centimeters. In principle, such a device can even fit in a kitchen cupboard, not to mention a small area set aside specifically for a microwave on a table or refrigerator.
Built-in Microwaves
A separate consideration deserves such a device as a built-in microwave. The size of such ovens, designed for placement in specially designated niches of kitchen panels, can, by the way, be twice as large as that of a conventional solo oven. In addition, this solution allows you to resolve the problem of the device’s functionality: you can place a medium-sized microwave oven in a niche, and this will not affect the space in the kitchen.
Designers came up with a great solution, while simultaneously solving two problems: convenience and beauty. So, kitchen panels are perfect for small and cramped rooms - in them you can conveniently arrange all the necessary appliances, regardless of dimensions, if they, however, correspond to the dimensions of the niches reserved for these appliances. No exception - and a built-in microwave.
The sizes of such devices are usually from 45 to 60 centimeters wide and the minimum depth is 30 cm. The largest models have a depth of 60 centimeters, which is twice as much as a conventional solo oven. The volume of the inner chamber, respectively, also increases - from 17 to 45 liters. The niche in this case, of course, saves small apartments and lovers of cooking in the microwave ovens that live in these apartments.
