How to sew a six-cap men's cap?
A cap is a hat that both men and women like to wear. Its distinctive feature is the presence of a high tulle and visor. The cap can shelter from frost and from the scorching sun. After all, it is known that it is sewn from a wide variety of materials: from genuine or artificial leather, wool, cotton, velveteen, tweed, synthetic fabrics, and also from fur. Six-link is one of the most common options for this men's headgear.
What do you need for sewing?
For work use:
- non-woven;
- sewing machine;
- 0.5 m of the main fabric;
- 0.5 m of fabric for lining;
- threads to match the fabric.
Building a pattern: beginning
First, you should build a cap pattern. For this, three measurements are taken: head circumference, forehead width and head length from the nape to the forehead. The lower part of the wedge is a segment equal to 1/6 of the circumference of the head. Measure the middle of the segment, and then draw a perpendicular line, the length of which is 1/2 the distance from the back of the head to the forehead. Then a smooth line is drawn along three points, and the value of the upper angle should be equal to 60 Β°.
Cutting out the visor
To build a visor pattern, draw a segment equal in length to the width of the forehead. Two smooth lines are drawn, the resulting part will resemble a crescent. To build a pattern of a plank (circle), draw a rectangle equal in length to the circumference of the head, and the width can be done arbitrarily, but not less than 2 cm.
Next, the paper pattern is laid out on the wrong side of the fabric and is surrounded by a pointed remnant or tailor's chalk. It is necessary to leave allowances for seams - 1 cm. One piece of a peg, two details of a peak and six wedges should be cut out.
If you plan to sew a cap from fabric to cage, the pattern should be located so that the cells on the wedges match. Similar details are cut out from non-woven fabric and lining fabric.

Then they start sewing. Using a heated iron, the inside of the parts created from the main fabric, glued non-woven. This is necessary in order for the product to maintain good shape. Next, the bottom wedges are ground on a sewing machine. The finishing line is laid on the front side. In the absence of the necessary skills, the wedges should first be swept away among themselves, after which they can be stitched on a typewriter.
Next, grind the lining details. If a warm cap is sewn, which is designed to be worn on cool days, the details of its lining should be quilted with synthetic winterizer.
To stiffen the visor, use a non-woven insert or thick cardboard of the appropriate size and shape. All details are sewn together, they are cut and turned on the front side. A decorative stitch should be laid along the edge of the visor.
Then a visor and a stitch are sewn to the top, equal in length to the circumference of the head. The lining is hemmed manually using a blind seam. From the inside, βearsβ are sewn to the little stitch. These are small fabric rectangles that can be easily hidden in warm weather. In bad weather they can cover their ears.
We sew a cap with a peak of five wedges
This cap pattern with a visor is designed for a head girth of 51 cm. Size increases or decreases by expanding or narrowing the wedges. To do this, the difference should be distributed over all five available seams. For example, to increase the cap pattern for a 51 cm girth to 54 cm, add 3 mm on both sides of each wedge:
3 cm (difference in size): 5 (number of wedges): 2 (number of sides of each wedge) = 3 mm.
After the cap pattern is on paper, the craftsmen recommend making sure its size is accurate. To do this, measure the length of the bottom of the wedge and multiply it by 5. The total length should be equal to the circumference of the head. Although 5 wedges are planned, their number can be changed, for example, increased to 6. At the same time, necessary changes should be made to the cap pattern.
For sewing, 0.3 m of fabric 1.5 m wide is used. In addition, a visor seal or a doubler (non-woven) is required. In order to create a good shape of the product, it is necessary to use hard fabric (jeans, velveteen, etc.) for sewing. You can also duplicate it, i.e. glue it with adhesive material.
DIY cap sewing sequence
We lay out the pattern (visor and wedge) on the fabric. We cut out all the details according to the layout: 5 wedges, 2 peaks + okolish. The length of the pattern should be 53 cm, width - 4 cm (width of the finished cap - 2 cm). 1.5 cm of fabric will be used for allowances. Next, wedges should be thrown off, while marking lines must be clearly combined. Allowances are cut to 7 mm. Then the parts are ironed. After that, the slices are overlocked or covered with braid, which will require a little more than allowances. Joint seams are sewn on the front side.
Then sheathe details of the visor. At the same time, they are folded face to face and the external sections are ground. The allowances are cut to 0.2-0.4 cm. Next, the visor is twisted out and ironed. A cardboard or plastic blank is inserted as a sealant. The visor is trimmed with a decorative stitch at a distance from the edge of 1-1.5 cm.
Further on the top and visor the midline is marked. The visor is ground off with the lower part of the tulle, and it is necessary to combine the marks. The plaque is ground into a ring and stitched to the tulle in its lower cut. Accordingly, a visor is also attached. Seam allowances are cut to the stitch and ironed to the side of the strip. It should be half turned inside out. In this case, the inner half is turned away and bounded by the seam of the sewing. The scaffold is removed together with the bottom of the cap or separately.
Cap-eight-blade (men's pattern): choose the classics
A cap with eight wedges (eight-blade) is one of the most common options for men's hats. The eight-blade cap (the pattern is presented later in the article) is worn with pleasure by men of various ages. This option represents the very classic, in which both the young guy and the old man bleached by gray hair look great.
The style emphasizes the color and texture of the material from which the garment is sewn. The eight-blade cap is made of genuine leather or leatherette, made of drap or fine natural wool. Caps are plain, non-marking strict shades or, conversely, with a bright and expressive color, will fit perfectly into any wardrobe. They are sewn on a twill or silk lining, with the use of insulation padding from synthetic winterizer (winter version). To protect the ears and the back of the head, this eight-blade cap can be equipped with a special visor, which is put inward in good weather, and released into the rain or wind.
This cap style is considered extremely successful. Due to the special form of the dress, it keeps perfectly on the head, does not move and does not fall. The eight-blade will be modern and stylish regardless of the vagaries of fashion.
How to sew an eight-blade?
To make a men's eight-blade cap, according to experienced seamstresses, is no more difficult than other models. To do this, use the main fabric - a segment of about half a meter length, the same segment of the lining fabric, threads matching in color, and non-woven fabric.
First, a measurement is taken (the diameter of the head, the distance from the forehead to the back of the head, the width of the forehead are measured). Then a pattern is made. The width of the wedges below should equal 1/8 of the total girth of the head. On this segment, a point in the middle should be noted through which to draw a line perpendicular to the first. Its length should be equal to half the distance from the back of the head to the forehead. Further, all points are connected. The angle of the top of the triangle should be 60 Β°.

After that, a visor is cut out. To do this, measure a segment equal to the width of the forehead, and smooth its dots in smooth semicircles that look like a month. Next, you need to build a peg (base). Its length is equal to the circumference of the head, the height should be made at least 2-3 cm. From the wrong side of the fabric, applying the template, trace the elements of the headdress, and then cut it out. Do not forget to leave 0.5 cm on the seams on both sides of the parts. The number of parts that should be obtained: wedges - 8 pcs., Crescents for the visor - 2 pcs., Pill strip - 1 pc.
Then make copies of the details of the lining fabric and non-woven fabric. With a hot iron they are connected to the main material. Then they catch the elements of the cap and try on. If everything turned out as it should, you can sew on the details. To create a good shape of the visor, you should invest a piece of cardboard in it. Lining is hemmed at the end.
