Many Muscovites are aware of the existence of a small village of Monino near the metropolis. In the Moscow region there are a lot of such villages, now many of them are becoming summer cottage clusters, places of out-of-town recreation.
A bit about the village
The town of Monino is located on the 23rd kilometer of the Gorky highway.

History
There are 2 versions about the appearance of Monino. According to one, the wasteland near the forest was called Muninskaya, in Finnish it means "personal farming", hence the name of a small village appeared.
According to the second version, lands in the XVIII-XIX centuries. owned by a certain landowner Monin. On its lands a forest was prepared for the railway. Here is his last name and served as the name of the village.
After the revolution, about 30 people lived in Monino, who worked on the Northern Railway and the wool-weaving factory.
Monino and Aviation
The Monino urban settlement in the Moscow Region began to develop actively with the construction of a military airfield on the desert swampy lands in 1926. Thousands of people were busy cutting down hectares of dense forest in order to build 2 runways almost a kilometer long, office premises, hangars and a military town in a short time. Heavy bombers and a regiment of long-range reconnaissance aircraft were stationed at the airport. From here, in 1941, Soviet pilots went to the bombing of Berlin.
In 1940, the Air Force Academy was opened in Monino, which in 1968 was named after the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.
Dormitories for families of military personnel were immediately built around the academy, the military camp became a closed zone with access control. The academy trained highly qualified personnel for flying, among the graduates 700 people received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, about 10 cosmonauts were trained. It was here that Ivan Kozhedub studied and then taught three times, Hero of the Soviet Union.

There is another museum in Monino, the existence of which few people know. This is a food service museum located in military unit 25976. On the museum grounds you can see the development of the military food service from the time of Peter I to the present day. How and with what the soldiers were fed 300 years ago and how it is happening today, samples of military rations, including space, kitchen and table equipment, mobile bakeries and camping boilers - all this will be seen by those who get into the museum by appointment.
Monino for Muscovites
In Monino, Moscow Region it is easy to reach:
- by train from the Yaroslavl station to Fryazino, you will have to spend 1 hour 15 minutes on the way;
