In the manufacture and assembly of products consisting of "grandmother" squares so beloved by many needlewomen, the question often arises: "How to combine crocheted motifs?"
In fact, many different methods have been invented for fastening such elements into a single piece of fabric, and in this article we will talk about some of the most popular ones. In particular, we will consider how the connection of motifs is performed using connecting
columns, double crochet and pico. Knowing at least some methods of linking individual elements is useful to any master.
Combining crochet motifs: two basic rules
The choice of a specific method of bonding individual knitting elements directly depends on the functional purpose of the lace fabric, on the desired appearance of the product and, of course, on the form of the motive itself. Squares, triangles, hexagons or circles can be connected in different ways, and often the method of connection depends on the imagination of the master. Nevertheless, no matter what method of attachment is chosen, the following rule always works: the connection of motives in the vast majority of cases is carried out on the front side of the canvas. Linking parts from the wrong side is rarely used, if necessary, to achieve a special decorative effect. The second rule of work is: any connection must be symmetrical. The product will turn out beautiful and accurate only if all its parts are fastened with the same tension of the loops throughout the canvas.
Ways to connect crochet motifs. How to choose the right one?
When choosing one or another method of fastening parts of a product, the master should be guided by several principles. As a rule, if tight assembly is required, the motifs are either stitched together or joined in single crochet stitches that are knitted in the last rows of the two motifs. These methods of joining parts are excellent in the manufacture of bedspreads, rugs, carpets.
If, on the contrary, it is required to make an airy, lace fabric, the connection of crocheted motifs should be made with columns with one or more crochets. Such methods of bonding can not only make a very beautiful openwork canvas, but also prevent possible deformation of the product during its further operation. Motives that are not intended to be assembled in a single piece are often connected by strapping arches made of pico or air loops.
Fastening motifs with connecting posts and chains of air loops
Several techniques have been developed to connect these elements, including fastening with connecting posts, zigzag or netting. The first method is used in the manufacture of bedspreads or blankets. It allows you to get a durable canvas that will not deform and stretch. How to combine crochet motifs ? Squares with straight sides are folded inside out, the hook is inserted behind the half-loop of the last row, and a bunch is made of single crochet (art. B / n) or half-loops.
The result is a convex embossed track from st. non-cash, which serves not only as a mount, but also to
decorate the product. The second method is used to give beauty and lightness to the canvas. When connecting motives, chains of air loops are used. Zigzags or mesh are formed from them. Here's how to combine crochet motifs: the details are laid out at a short distance from each other and attached with pins or needles to the pattern. Next, a thread is attached to one of the motifs with a single crochet and several air loops are performed (from 3 to 5). Then this chain is attached to another motive by a connecting column. Often the details of lace tops, boleros, sundresses, shawls are connected in this way.
Fastening parts along the tops of the double crochet posts as well as the pico ends
Grandma’s squares or any other elements whose edges are tied with a pico can be fastened using its tips. How to combine crocheted motifs this way? First, one air loop is made, then the parts are connected by knitting a connecting loop from the center of the pico element of another motive. Next, another VP is performed and secured with the help of a connecting loop in the last column. The connection of square motifs crocheted can be done on the tops of the double crochet. How it's done? The hook is introduced in front of the junction, capture the working loop and pull. Then the “working tool” is inserted into the next point of attachment and 1 knit with a double crochet is crocheted: a yarn is crocheted, a hook is inserted into the loop, the working thread is captured and pulled. Next, they again grab the thread and knit all the loops until the crochet. Then they again grab the thread and knit all the remaining loops. After that, the working tool is introduced to the next point and the next double crochet is made.
The combination of motives in the course of the product
This method of fastening parts allows you to get smooth beautiful seams. It is great for assembling canvas from hexagons. How to make such a connection of individual motives crocheted? First, we leave in the last row the untied sides of the first motive. Next, we connect two parts in the corners: we replace the central air loop of the arch with a connecting column. After that, we knit the first crochet in the second motive. Then we remove the loop from the hook. We introduce our working tool (in the direction from the face to the inside) under the two walls of the loop of the column of the first motive. We grab and stretch the removed loop. We knit a crochet column, again we remove the loop from the hook.
Enter the working tool in the next column and pick up the loop. By analogy, we combine the two motives to the end. As a result, you get a neat twisted seam.
