Once upon a time in the place where the metropolitan Preobrazhenskoye district is now located, there was a village with the same name. It is famous for the fact that there, firstly, in 1672, in honor of the birth of the heir to the Romanov dynasty, Pyotr Alekseevich, a theater was founded - the very first in Russia, and secondly, the fact that Peter I became a military commander in this village , emperor, reformer and creator of the Russian fleet.
Much later, in the 1860s, Moscow grew, Preobrazhenskoe became its outskirts, however, with developed industry. At first, her needs were served by cab drivers, then by horse, in the beginning of the 20th century a tram appeared on Preobrazhenka, and on the last day of 1965 a metro station was opened.
History and Modernity
The "red" metro line was the first not only in Moscow, but also in the Soviet Union in general. Traffic on it was opened on May 15, 1935. Four years later, for Leonid Utesov they composed the “Song of the Old Cabman”, in which he sang:
Well, how does this only work out?
Everything in life got messed up cunningly:
To harbor you, I'm heading in the morning
From Sokolnikov to the Park by metro ...
It was from the “Culture Park” to the “Sokolniki” that the Kirov-Frunzenskaya line stretched. In 1990, they began to officially name it Sokolnicheskaya. And for 30 years, Sokolniki was the terminal station. Finally, on the eve of 1966, the seventy-fifth in a row opened the Preobrazhenskaya Square metro station. On the map of Moscow, it is located in the north of the Sokolnicheskaya line under an area with the same name. Here is an old photo of Preobrazhenskaya Square. That's what the station’s ground lobby looked like then.
For almost 25 years, the Preobrazhenskaya Square metro station remained the terminal station, until on the same day, August 1, 1990, they opened the Cherkizovskaya and Podbelsky Street (now Rokossovsky Boulevard). Then, in the early 90s, the possibility of renaming the station was discussed. They chose between the names "Preobrazhenskaya" or "Preobrazhenskoe", but as a result they left the previous name.
Geography of the metro station Preobrazhenskaya Square
Now "Transfiguration Square" is one of twenty-two on the "red" branch. Neighboring stations are Sokolniki, located closer to the center, and Cherkizovskaya, which is the penultimate one on the Sokolniki line. Transfiguration Square metro station is a large transport hub, from where you can get not only to Preobrazhenskaya Square itself, but also to Preobrazhensky Val, Preobrazhenskaya, Suvorovskaya, Krasnobogatyrskaya, Buzheninova, Bolshaya and Malaya Cherkizovskaya streets. Eight underground passages lead to the surface .
Specifications
"Preobrazhenskaya Square" - an intermediate station, non-stop. From the center, from Sokolniki, trains run to it along an open section, along a metro bridge over Yauza 330 meters long.
Typical design developed by architect N. I. Demchinsky. Three flights: two wayways and one - “island” for waiting 10 meters wide. This type is most comfortable for passengers in terms of noise level. The direct platform from the trains is separated by two lines of columns of 40 pieces each - this is the design called the “centipede”. The distance between the square columns is 4 meters.
The metro station Preobrazhenskaya Square is shallow, its depth is only 8 m. That is why there are no escalators, only stairs. The lobby is underground, the ground exits are glazed, transparent. There are two of them: northern and southern. Entrance through different lobbies is at different times. The southern one is open from 6.30 to 23.05, the northern one works longer: from 5.30 to 1 am.
At that time, when the station was final, there was a cross congress. Now it is disassembled due to lack of need. Track development is now absent, since overtaking, formation and disbanding of trains, and repair of wagons are not supposed at this section.
Design of Preobrazhenskaya Square
Initially, the track walls were covered with tiles, which were dilapidated by 2009. Then, during the repair, the walls were closed with a white aluminum “clapboard”. The letters of the station name were left the same as originally - metal. Instead of black tiles, a strip of black marble was laid down the wall.
The floor of the “island of expectation” is covered with slabs of light gray and strips of red granite, the columns are surrounded by white marble and decorated with an ornamental Ural coil (serpentinite).
