The Bocharov Ruchey complex is the official residence of the president

Bocharov Ruchey is a small valley in the Krasnodar Territory, in an area called New Sochi, occupied by a small river and a rapidly decreasing forest park today. On the right slope, the medical and preventive sanatoriums Salyut and Uzbekistan are currently located.

History: General Information

Bocharov Ruchey got its name by the name of Ivan Vasilyevich Bocharov, one of the largest landowners who occupied about a thousand hectares of fertile land in this region of Sochi. Until the mid-nineteenth century, this area was called by people living here Midaobza, which from the Ubykh language translates as "naughty river." According to preserved archival documents, before the revolution it was a sparsely populated territory, separated from the Sochi Posad by the Khludov side.

Cottage "Bocharov Ruchey"

Despite the large-scale construction of the "Caucasian Riviera", which began after 1921, during the construction period of the 30s of the last century, one of the most famous resort cities developed mainly in the direction of the Khost microdistrict. For this reason, a valley called Bocharov Ruchei (Sochi) was chosen to build a summer residence for the Soviet military commander Kliment Efremovich Voroshilov, who was then the people's commissar for naval and military affairs. The administration of this city decided that the country house would be built according to the project of one of the most famous architects of that time, Miron Ivanovich Merzhanov, who from 1934 to 1941 was considered Stalin's personal architect. Voroshilov's cottage was completed almost at the same time as the famous medical prophylactic center of the Red Army, which received the name Voroshilov in 1934.

The second stage in the history of the cottage

The construction of the Bocharov Ruchey country house was supervised by the famous agronomist-decorator Sergey Ilyich Venchagov, who received a honors degree at the Moscow Agricultural Academy in 1951. Later, according to distribution, he was sent to Sochi, where over the next twenty years he ennobled state dachas intended for the recreation of families of party workers. In the period from 1971 to 1997, Sergey Ilyich began to improve the government country house. The decorator worked at the Zelenstroy municipal enterprise at that time. It was under his leadership that a garden was created in honor of Russian-Japanese friendship, as well as a truly unique corner of wildlife called "Phytophantasy." With the collapse of the Soviet Union, this picturesque place became the only official Russian government cottage located on the Black Sea.
