Yerevan is the capital of Armenia. Most historians believe that the year of foundation of Yerevan is the year of foundation of the settlement of Erebuni, that is, 782 BC. Erebuni was located in the southern territory of the modern capital of Armenia. Yerevan is located in the Republic of Armenia, in its central part. The upper part is surrounded by picturesque mountains, and to the south it is located on the banks of the beautiful Hrazdan River, which flows through the canyon and divides it into two parts. The climate in Yerevan is continental. Summer is dry and hot, and winter is snowy and cold.
Yerevan population
Armenians make up the majority of the population of the capital. Ethnic minorities also live in Yerevan - Kurds, Russians, Iranians and Azerbaijanis.
How to get to know the city?
It is better to start exploring the city from the hill on which the ruins of the Erebuni fortress are located. This hill is located in the southeastern part of the capital, between the districts of Vardanesh and Nor Aresh. During excavations, archaeologists discovered that on this hill there are about a hundred hectares of ancient buildings, which were covered with a thick layer of soil. Almost in the center rises a hill with the buildings of the citadel.
The capital of Armenia and Soviet power
In 1924, the Soviet government decided to reconstruct Yerevan. It was carried out according to the project of Tamanyan, who created a special national style using elements of church architecture. During the reconstruction, the capital of Armenia changed its appearance. Almost all previously built buildings were demolished. New streets were created, electricity, sewage and running water were laid, and the surrounding hills were planted with trees. Now the central square of the Republic has become the architectural center of Yerevan. It houses the Government House,
