From the history of the city
The first references in written sources about Lucescu (as Lutsk was called in ancient times) date back to the times of Kievan Rus. Historians date the founding of the city as 1000. Throughout the entire existence of Lutsk, his fate was determined by different countries and peoples. In the XIV century, the city was considered the capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality, then it became the citizenship of Lithuania, and a little later - the Commonwealth. During the revolution of 1917, a blue-yellow Ukrainian flag was first hoisted over Lutsk . A few years later (under the Riga Treaty) the city came under Polish rule. In 1939, this territory became part of the USSR. All this could not but affect the architecture of the city. Modern Lutsk, whose attractions will be described in this article, is an incredibly beautiful ensemble of different architectural styles and amazing structures.
Lubart Castle
This is a unique building of the late XIII - XIV century, the main attraction of the city. Together with other monuments, the castle is part of the Old Lutsk Nature Reserve. Today this outstanding building is the first and main item on the list of travelers visiting the sights of Lutsk and the region.
Everyone who falls into the castle of Lubart has a unique opportunity to plunge into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. Here you can visit the museum of bells (one of the most famous in the world), see the towers, various buildings, arches of the ancient gates, which were equipped with drawbridges.

Places of worship
- The Jesuit Monastery was erected in the 17th century. Its constituent part is the Peter and Paul Church. According to legend, there were underground passages connecting Lutsk with neighboring villages. Today, everyone can order a tour of these mysterious mazes. Also in the dungeon are a crypt and a prison complex with a solitary confinement.
- Lutheran Church - an interesting building, erected in the 20th century. in neo-gothic style.
- The monastery of brigid women. Previously, the Radziwill Palace was located on this site. In the middle of the 19th century, a big fire broke out in the monastery, partially destroying the city. After that, a prison was formed here. Today, the building houses a man’s monastery.
Lutsk: attractions worthy of everyone's attention
- Monument to St. Nicholas, which is considered the patron saint of Lutsk. The monument is the main decoration of the square in front of the city administration (on B. Khmelnitsky street). Local legend says that any desire will come true if you make it near the monument, touching the miracle worker’s leg.
- The castle of young sculptors is one of the most unusual buildings in Lutsk. It is also called the "house with chimeras." The castle was built at the request of the sculptor N. Golovan. The building is decorated with many interesting figures.
- The monument to Lesja Ukrainka is located near the musical and drama theater. Also in the city there is a street named after the great poetess, and a house in which she spent her childhood.

Sights of the Volyn region
