From the history of the city

The first references in written sources about Lucescu (as Lutsk was called in ancient times) date back to the times of Kievan Rus. Historians date the founding of the city as 1000. Throughout the entire existence of Lutsk, his fate was determined by different countries and peoples. In the XIV century, the city was considered the capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality, then it became the citizenship of Lithuania, and a little later - the Commonwealth. During the revolution of 1917, a blue-yellow Ukrainian flag was first hoisted over Lutsk . A few years later (under the Riga Treaty) the city came under Polish rule. In 1939, this territory became part of the USSR. All this could not but affect the architecture of the city. Lubart Castle

This is a unique building of the late XIII - XIV century, the main attraction of the city. Together with other monuments, the castle is part of the Old Lutsk Nature Reserve.
