Embroidery is the most ancient type of needlework. Her invention is attributed to the ancient Greek goddess Minerva. But historians argue that in the East this art was known much earlier than the myths of ancient Greece. Today, about 15 basic types of embroidery and countless seams and stitches are known. For beginners, for the first time, this kit is enough: needles, threads, thimble, embroidery hoop for beads, ruler, scissors. The hardest thing to choose a hoop. There are several types of hoops for different types of embroidery and canvas sizes.

Round hoop

Unites several types of such hoops, only one - two hoops. Their width ranges from 8 to 15 mm, and their diameter is from 10 to 30 cm. A hoop for embroidery is made of metal, wood and plastic. Even the shape may differ from the traditional round - oval and square with rounded edges. A tool with an adjusting screw is popular with craftswomen. This model allows you to use fabric of very different densities for embroidery.

The round embroidery hoop is easy to use, ideal for beginners and appreciated for its excellent fabric tension. In addition, work in progress can be taken with you anywhere, and you wonโ€™t need much space for it. The embroidery frame was loved by the creators of embroidered paintings. So, after the work is finished, the frame is not removed, and the finished picture is immediately placed on the wall thanks to a loop built into the outer circle of the hoop.

Square frames

Embroidery hoops - this is most often a wooden rectangular frame. Their other name is tapestry. The sizes are very different: 30x30 cm, 30x45 cm, 30x60 cm. The fabric is attached to the tool from two sides, usually from above and below in different ways - it is sewn, fixed with special clips, pins or a furniture stapler. Experienced craftsmen advise to pay attention to these embroidery hoops to those who plan to embroider the big picture. Many times, the fabric reinstalled on the hoop is deformed and stretched, and this harms the canvas, and the final result can be very frustrating. Frame hoops weigh significantly more than round hoops. Another advantage of tapestry frames is that with them the fabric practically does not get dirty.

Stationary embroidery hoops are used by professional needlewomen. They can be placed on a table or set in front of you, and sit on a sofa or in an armchair. The biggest plus of the stationary hoop is the free second hand, which does not need to hold the tool. To embroider with two hands, holding one above the cloth, and the second taking the needle from the bottom, is much more convenient and productive.
