Nizhny Novgorod is the fifth largest city in Russia, but it is also called the third capital of the country. The village has an ancient history, many memorable and interesting places, from the Kremlin to the Woodpeckers. A settlement is located in the central European part of the state on the so-called Strelka, where two huge rivers meet - the Volga and the Oka. The city is divided into two parts:
- Nagornaya (includes 3 districts).
- Zarechnaya (5 districts).
City transport
Naturally, like any other "millionaire", Nizhny Novgorod can be proud of a developed transport system. Shuttle taxis, buses and trolleybuses, taxis run in the city. There is a subway and even a cable car and express boats running on rivers on a regular basis. Do trams run in Nizhny Novgorod? Of course yes. This vehicle can be reached not only in almost all points of the city, but also for free to conduct a tour around the ancient city.
Nizhny Novgorod Tram
Ground movement was launched in 1896. Huge work was done before the launch, throughout the whole year the city was preparing for the opening of an industrial exhibition, to which the launch of the first trams of Nizhny Novgorod was timed. True, at the end of the event, one of the three narrow gauge railways was dismantled, but the rest continued to carry passengers. The periodic owners of the tram depot changed, the working conditions of the employees were unbearable, even when compared with their Moscow and St. Petersburg colleagues. Such a difficult situation of workers is associated with their active participation in the events of 1905. Despite this, the length of the lines increased.
Museum
The city even has a Museum of Nizhny Novgorod Trams, more correctly - dedicated to electric transport. Trolleybuses nevertheless appeared later, approximately by 50 years, therefore, nevertheless, the exhibition is more dedicated to trams. This attraction is located on the territory of depot No. 1. All exhibits can be touched, sit on them and pulled at any leverage, so very children will like the museum. According to visitors' reviews, everything is clean here, and there are signs near each exhibit, but getting on an excursion is quite problematic. In any case, there should be no regrets about a walk in the museum.
Modern transport network
The times when there were a couple of routes in the city have gone into oblivion, now you can get to almost any point on the tram in Nizhny Novgorod and see almost all the sights. On the route number 1 and 2, 21 you can go around the entire Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin.
There are 14 routes in total. Only three of them connect both parts of the city:

From Igarskaya street (tram number 8) you can get to the village of Gnilitsy, they come here to stay in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And on the tram Nizhny Novgorod number 22 from the metro station "Avtozavodskaya" - to Sotsgorod-2. There is also a route number 21, moving between the stops "Black Pond" to the stop Park "Dubki". Five routes run exclusively in the upland part of the city: Nos. 2, 5, 11, 18 and 19.
The work of trams in Nizhny Novgorod can be appreciated quite well. The administration of electric transport is trying to increase the number of trains and reduce the interval between them on holidays and weekends.
Excursion programs
From January 2 to January 8 of the next year, an excursion tram-cafe will run around the city. The total travel time will take more than 2.5 hours. The event begins at 12:00, the tram leaves from the stop "Moscow Station". At the terminal station - the Black Pond stop - an excursion will begin along B. Pokrovskaya Street and further to the Kremlin. The cost of participation in the tour is 600 rubles per person.
Trams of the future
The comfort of passengers and the quality of tram traffic in Nizhny Novgorod can dramatically improve in the near future. It is planned to launch production of new, and most importantly, energy-efficient trams in the city. Such rolling stocks will save up to 40% of electric energy. Tatra-3 wagons designed by the Nizhny Novgorod firm Phobos-TS and Uraltrasmash, Zimatekhnik (Czech Republic) will be produced. At the last meeting, the head of the region and the Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Russian Federation agreed on this. Nizhny Novgorod and the Czech Republic have been cooperating for a long time, in just 9 months of this year, trade turnover increased by 2.6%.
