The king came up with the idea of this construction in 1867 immediately after visiting the magnificent Versailles. After 2 years, Ludwig II acquired land in the area of the hunting lodge, previously owned by his father Maximilian II. The construction of the castle was led by the architect Georg Dolman (the famous creator of Neuschwanstein) and lasted 8 years. Having visited France, Ludwig II was so inspired by the beauty of the Palace of Versailles that he demanded that all elegant French luxury be embodied in Linderhof. Repeatedly sent to France sculptors and builders to study the smallest details of Versailles. The Bavarian king chose the peacock as the symbol of Linderhof. Bird statues adorn the pavilions of the alley of the complex, all the halls. The center of luxury - busts, portraits and statues of the king of France. Linderhof is a fairytale castle. He is perhaps the only one of all the palaces, the construction of which managed to be completed during the life of Ludwig.

The source of his inspiration was again the park of the Palace of Versailles . When creating the park, steep hills around the Graswangtal valley were correctly used. A truly unique composition consists of terraced gardens in the Renaissance style, baroque stalls and an English landscape garden. The park complex includes not only the palace itself, but also other buildings of various styles and eras:

  • Water parterre - the central facade of the palace.
  • Three Italian-style terraces located on a slope.
  • Oriental parterre, consisting of ornamental flower beds with sculptures.
  • West ground.
  • Galleries with linden vaults.
  • Moorish Pavilion.
  • Grotto of Venus.

The unusual beauty of the park is emphasized by the alpine landscapes surrounding it.
