Taffeta fabric: varieties, properties, care

Taffeta fabric is found almost everywhere. Many people confuse this material because of the name with Persian textiles, which are expensive silk. Unlike smart fabrics, taffeta is inexpensive and versatile. In fact, it is a widely used synthetic material with many varieties.

The main types of fabric

Taffeta fabric differs from other fabrics not only in composition but also in appearance. This material is light, thin and has a glossy surface. In addition, taffeta is available in several varieties. The main difference is the raw materials that were used for its manufacture:

  • polyester;
  • nylon.

Features and differences

Taffeta fabric made from nylon fibers is highly resistant to moisture and chemicals. Such material is quite flexible and practically does not wear out. The disadvantages of this fabric include a low hygroscopicity indicator. In addition, the nylon material is highly electrified. Taffeta of this variety is often produced with a special coating. Due to this, the material can be used for the manufacture of camping equipment, tents and tents. In addition, the nylon fabric is ideal for linings.

As for the material made of polyester, it is inferior to other types of fabric not only in strength, but also in resistance to chemicals. However, such a taffeta fabric perfectly tolerates high temperatures and ultraviolet radiation. The properties of the polyester material are greatly affected by the density of the fabric. This indicator can be 170-230 T. Moreover, the weight of such matter directly depends on the density and on what kind of impregnation was used in its manufacture. Taffet lining fabric can be mesh, translucent or have a knitted structure. Its density, as a rule, is not indicated.

How to care for such a fabric

Taffeta fabric is a synthetic material. Such textiles are unpretentious in leaving. Such a fabric, even having a special coating, easily tolerates multiple washing cycles in an automatic washing machine. The main thing is that the water temperature does not exceed 40 ° C.

Drying the fabric in a special dryer is not recommended. The material itself is lightweight and dries very quickly. It is not necessary to use special irons for this. If necessary, the fabric can be ironed. The temperature of the iron should not exceed 110 ° C.

It is not recommended to bleach the fabric with the help of special products that contain chlorine. This substance negatively affects not only the color of the material, but also its structure. Dry cleaning of such fabric is also not recommended.
