Historical information about the Republic of Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan ranks ninth in the world with an area of almost 3 million square kilometers. The Republic of Kazakhstan is the economically dominant country in Central Asia, producing 60% of the region’s GDP, primarily due to its oil and gas industry. The state has huge mineral resources and has access to the Caspian Sea.

The republic borders on Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The relief of Kazakhstan is diverse: there are plains and steppes, severe taiga, mountain canyons and snow-capped mountains, as well as deserts. Kazakhstan has a population of about 18 million, according to 2014 data. Given the large area of the Kazakh state, the population density in the republic is one of the lowest, about 5 people per square kilometer of land. Now the capital is Astana, it was moved in 1997 from the city of Alma-Ata (the largest city in the country).

The territory of Kazakhstan was previously inhabited by nomad tribes. This changed in the 13th century when Genghis Khan incorporated the country into the Mongol Empire. After an internal struggle between the conquerors, the nomads eventually returned power. The Russian Empire began to advance towards the Kazakh steppe in the 18th century and by the middle of the 19th century nominally ruled all of Kazakhstan. After the revolution of 1917 and the subsequent civil war, the territory of Kazakhstan was transformed several times. In 1991, the Kazakh SSR disconnected from the Soviet Union and became an independent and independent republic.

Kazakhstan today

Since gaining independence, Kazakhstan (1991) has been ruled by President Nursultan Nazarbayev. According to official figures, Kazakhstan is a democratic presidential republic. According to the election results, more than 90% of voters vote for Nazarbayev.

Country currency

Kazakhstan introduced the currency - tenge. One tenge contains 100 tiyin.

In November 1993, the Presidential Decree “On the introduction of the national currency of Kazakhstan” was issued, as a result of which the tenge was introduced to replace the Soviet ruble. One tenge was equal to 500 rubles. In 1991, a group of talented designers was assembled: Mendybai Alin, Timur Suleimenov, Asimsalay Duzhelkhanov and Khairulla Gabzhallilov. Thus, on November 15, Kazakhs celebrate Kazakhstan Currency Day . By 1995, a printing yard was opened in the republic. The first batch of Kazakh tenge was printed not at home, but abroad, in England. So the first coins of Kazakhstan appeared. The image of the currency can be seen below.
