The famous Polish resort on the Baltic Sea - Sopot - together with Gdansk and Gdynia form the so-called "Triple City" - "Tricity". Sopot attracts, first of all, with its vast sandy beaches, and gained European fame largely due to the Song Festival, held annually at the Forest Opera - a unique building whose walls form wooded hills.
Even in the early Middle Ages in the territory of the modern resort there was a Pomeranian hillfort, fragments of which, carefully guarded, now serve as one of the objects of tourist hunting for unique cultural monuments. The uniqueness of the settlement is that it is so far the only monument of this kind known in Poland. Natives of the city have no doubt that it will remain so in the future, therefore the former excavation zone, located about half a kilometer from the seashore on a hill, has been declared by the Polish authorities an archaeological museum-reserve.
Unique is the longest wooden pier in Europe (515 m) - a favorite place for walking tourists and locals. To the north and south of the pier are the famous healing baths, with the opening of which in 1823 the history of Sopot as a resort began. Another favorite place for promenades appeared in the 70s of the last century: in the place of drained swamps along the beach was laid the Northern Park with a length of almost 2 kilometers.
Among other attractions of Sopot, you should pay attention to the museum of the city, which is located on Primorsky Boulevard in a chic mansion. In the permanent exhibition of the museum, the atmosphere of the beginning of the 20th century is recreated, and exhibits telling about the history of the city are presented. The second floor of the museum displays works of contemporary European art. On the street of Maria Sklodowska there is the State Gallery of Art, where presentations of paintings by contemporary artists with the participation of authors are also held.
In general, in Sopot there are many private galleries, exhibiting and realizing the work of masters of the brush and cutter. One of them - gallery-cafe del Art - is located in the famous Crooked House, built in 2003. The facade of the house resembles a dancing tipsy person, but the interior is standard, as foreign exchange market, they are occupied by shops, cafes and offices of leading firms.
For tourists who do not want to lose their sports form during their holidays, in Sopot there are many sites for sports, many kilometers of bike paths, golf courses, diving and surfing schools. And children will like a wonderful water park with water slides, grottoes and waterfalls, where not only residents of nearby cities come to the weekend, but also our compatriots from Kaliningrad.
