Not every Russian is familiar with a young Russian city with a population of about 44,000 people. Where is the city of Langepas located? On the map of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug you can see that it stands on the right bank of the Ob River, 430 km from Khanty-Mansiysk, and 930 km from Tyumen. His fate is connected with the start of gas and oil production in the Middle Ob region. It was born as a village of oil workers. The city appeared on the map of Russia on August 15, 1985. Its area is 5951 ha. Langepas is part of the galaxy of cities of LUKOIL.

The city of Langepas, the photo of which you see in our article, is surrounded by mixed taiga, rich fauna and flora. Not far from the city you can meet a bear den. The forest is rich in fur-bearing animals: foxes, muskrats, chipmunks, squirrels - there are a great many of them. By the way, it is the squirrel that is the main symbol of the young city, even its name translates as "squirrel's land". In the swamps you can hunt ducks. In these places, fishing is well developed. More than other types of fish, roach, perch, pike, and muksun are widespread. In some large bodies of water in the Lokosov area, you can see white swans.
European city
The city was built on new projects, taking into account new technologies. It is distinguished from other small northern cities by wide streets, spacious squares. Residential and industrial areas were built taking into account the respect for nature.
Now Langepas includes eight microdistricts, which make up two residential areas. They are separated by the city community center. The city development plan provides for the construction of two more microdistricts in the near future.
Economy
Langepas is a city in which 454 enterprises of various forms of ownership operate, and the active development of medium and small businesses continues. The main share in the volume of industrial production belongs to the Langepasneftegaz TPP, which is part of LUKOIL LLC. Today, this company is developing nine oil fields.
The origin of tradition
An excellent tradition has appeared and has successfully taken root in the city: to celebrate City Day and the Oil Worker Day (a professional holiday for most workers in the city) by completing the construction of new architectural structures. Thus, the school and city stadiums, a water-sports complex, and a mini-football hall were included in the list of recent buildings in recent years. The construction of a modern hospital complex has been completed. Well-equipped medical facility consists of 10 departments. A new kindergarten has begun, which is attended by 280 children. The city of Langepas boasts the first exhibition center, a health center and the Cathedral Mosque. In parallel with social facilities, housing is also being built.

Despite its youth, the city of Langepas has its own monuments and sights. Their main one is the Square for the memory of WWII soldiers with a memorial complex. Gray-haired veterans and first-graders come here in mournful days for our country to honor the memory of those who, at the cost of their lives, defended our right to life and freedom. People come here in the brightest days of their lives to lay flowers and thank all those who died for their saved lives.
In 2001, the president of the oil company Lukoil presented the city with a monument that was installed in the central square. It is made in the form of a lotus flower and symbolizes the bright future of this city.
In 2005, “Squirrel” appeared on the city square of Langepas - a symbol of the city made of bronze. The nose and ears of the sculpture simply sparkle in the sun, because residents believe that those who rub the squirrel will be happy.
The famous sculptor A. Kovalchuk works a lot and fruitfully for the city, whose works can be seen in the Tretyakov Gallery. “In memory of the pioneers,” “After the shift,” “Boy playing with a dog” - these are some of the author's works exhibited in Langepas.
Museum and Exhibition Center
It is curious to know that the history of this still very young museum began with the collection of an amateur ethnographer, who for many years had been collecting tools, clothing, and household items from the local population. Currently, more than 200 rare exhibits are stored in the museum. Most recently, the Young Ethnographer circle has opened here.
