History of Arkhipo-Osipovka
According to historians, the first settlements appeared in these places about two hundred thousand years ago. Even in the Bronze Age tribes of dolmen culture lived here. Around the VIII-VI centuries BC. e. tribes of warlike Achaeans appeared in this area, who were one of the direct ancestors of the current Circassians of Circassia. After the
Black Sea coast of the Caucasus departed for Russia in 1829, the creation of the coastline began, and a number of new fortifications cost. In 1837, General Velyaminov ordered the construction of another fortress near the Vulan River. July 29, the first stone of the new settlement was laid, which became known as Mikhailovsky.
During the war with the Highlanders in 1840, the fortress was attacked. The forces were unequal, and everything could end in the defeat of the garrison, but a soldier named Arkhip Osipov blew up a powder warehouse. The fortress flew into the air, and the enemies were destroyed. In place of the blown up fortification, a six-meter cast-iron openwork cross was installed on a stone pedestal.
