IPPON brand products are manufactured in Taiwan at the facilities of Centralion Industrial INC. In the CIS countries, the brand is promoted by the company MERLION.
Description
Interactive UPSs come in six different series. The model under consideration belongs to the Back Office series, which includes UPSs with an output power of 400 and 600 VA. The series also has the original name iMaster. The UPSs included in the range belong to the OffLine class.
The manufacturer indicates the following product characteristics:
- Output power - 600 and 300 watts.
- For a PC with a 15 'monitor, the battery life is 8 minutes.
- Ability to run UPS IPPON Back Office without connecting to an electrical outlet.
- The battery charges up to 90% in 10 hours.
- IPPON Back Office is equipped with red and green LEDs.
- Compact size and light weight.
- Sound alerts.
Equipment
IPPON Back Office 400 comes in its original packaging size of 125 x 290 x 220 mm and weighs about 4 kilograms. For ease of transportation, a cutout is located at the top of the box. There is a sticker on the box informing you that the UPS was manufactured in Taiwan.
The IPPON Back Office 400 package includes:
- Russified instruction manual.
- Russified warranty card.
- WinPower software disc.
A strange addition for UPSs that are not equipped with interfaces for communicating with a PC is a software disc. Wires for connecting protected equipment, traditional for the IPPON Back Office 400 UPS, are also not included.
The warranty on the UPS is standard - 2 years from the date of implementation of the device, but no more than 30 months from the date of manufacture. You can determine the release date by serial number. Authorized brand service centers are located in 100 cities of Russia.
Design IPPON Back Office 400
The UPS is made in a four-piece plastic case: two side, back and front panels. At the top is electronics, at the bottom is a battery. Housing elements are connected using screws, latches and grooves. Molding, like plastic, is of very high quality. The current mode LEDs, like the Power button, are located on the front panel of the UPS.
Four IEC 320 sockets, a 5A reusable fuse and an RJ-45 socket are located on the rear panel of the power supply. A fixed cable is used to connect to the mains.
Battery
The Back Office 400, like the IPPON Back Office 600, uses a dual-battery, manufactured by Taiwanese company CSB. The capacity of this battery is 7.2 Ah, the voltage is 12 V. The discharge of the batteries in this series is enough for 20 hours of operation. Battery capacity increases when the UPS is used under standard conditions.
Replace the battery at a service center. The user can do this on their own - for this you will need to disassemble the IPPON Back Office 400 enclosure.
Circuitry
On a single-sided printed circuit board is all the main electronics of the device. Electronics and battery compartment are separated from each other. All elements correspond to the circuit diagram, the board itself, as well as the soldering of elements on it, is high-quality. All components are installed on both sides of the board, on the back of which are planar parts.
Two of the four central wires are connected by jumpers, despite the fact that the protection board is wired to all four pairs of the RJ-45 connector. Earth bus with protection not connected.
The filter design from impulse noise is extremely simple and consists of a capacitor and a varistor.
By means of a relay, switching is carried out at a maximum current strength of 8A and a voltage of 250 V, so that it is possible to connect a load with a maximum peak power of 2000 VA.
The approximated sine wave is formed by an inverter with four transistors manufactured by Chino-Excel Technology Co. It is created according to the high-frequency circuit, so that the design of the UPS does not use too heavy a fifty-Hz transformer. When operating without battery load, the UPS consumes 2.9 watts. The power of each installed transistor is 100 W, the maximum working 1-phase voltage is 30 V, the operating temperature range is up to 175 Β° C. All transistors are attached to two massive radiators with dimensions of 30 x 10 x 25 mm.
UPS Operation
The stabilizer, or automatic voltage regulator, which allows you to adjust the input voltage received from the mains without switching to battery power, is not installed on the OffLine class UPS.
The input voltage provided by the UPS is about 170β280 V, which is not the best indicator.
The transition of the UPS to battery power is accompanied by a sound signal and is carried out when the voltage in the mains goes beyond the specified ranges. Switching to batteries is accompanied by short beeps with a frequency of 5 seconds. The frequency of the signal is reduced to 1 second when the UPS is operating with a discharged battery.
Bench testing
The uninterruptible power supply was tested at different load levels for the duration of battery operation. During testing, the UPS in the entire load range fits into the relevant GOST and gives an average of 217 V. Based on the test results, the recommended UPS load power is 300 watts.
According to the results of tests carried out on a real load, the power source showed its best. From the discharge of the battery to a complete shutdown, a lot of time remains. The only negative is the possible problems when working with modern multi-core processors and video cards, synchronization with which significantly reduces the operating time.
Battery Charge
Battery life and battery life affect both battery life and the UPS. The manufacturer for the battery installed in the power supply indicates the maximum charging current of 2.16 A. After a full discharge, the battery restores the charge in 17 hours. At the beginning of the charging process, the charging current reached a value of 520 mA. For six hours, the current maintained its value at 480 mA. To the mark of 20 mA and voltage of 13.7 V, 10 hours passed. After an intense charge, the battery was restored for 6 hours.
The uninterruptible power supply was charged in the operating voltage range and in the on mode. The charging current in the range from 170 to 280 V varied by 44%, which for the UPS is a very good result.
The functioning of the charging circuit according to the results of all tests carried out is considered good. The minuses include the battery charge only when the device is turned on, the pluses are the competent selection of the charge current and the target voltage, which ensures an acceptable battery life and capacity.
Work with APFC and cold start
The UPS will turn on at its maximum rated load when checking the cold start system. Within 160 ms, the rated output voltage is set.
Uninterruptible power supplies of both models - IPPON Back Office 600 and Back Office 400 - are not recommended for use with PC power supplies equipped with APFC. The model was connected to power supplies with a wide input voltage range and active PFC in order to verify compatibility. When connected to a computer with this type of power supply, the system worked unstably, constantly turning off and on.
Software and Interface
The bundled software will not work. The fact is that the uninterruptible power supply is not equipped with an interface for communication with a personal computer.
conclusions
The uninterruptible power supply IPPON Back Office is a budget model, however, all the parameters specified by the manufacturer are provided to them in full. From a practical point of view, a rejection of the interface for connecting to a computer may even be justified.
UPS can be used to provide uninterrupted power to office computers and communication equipment. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the UPS cannot protect the equipment from under or over voltage in the mains.
Benefits:
- Corresponds to the declared capacity.
- High-quality, modern and simple execution.
- Light weight and compact.
Disadvantages:
- Incompatible with active PFC power supplies.
- At the input of the protected equipment, voltage from 170 to 280 V.
